Fans left saddened after 11th tier club announce decision to fold with immediate effect

Fans have been left saddened after 11th tier club Bedlington Terriers announce the tough decision to fold with immediate effect.

In an emotional club statement, they expressed deep sadness, thanked players, staff, sponsors, and fans for their dedication.

They had sat bottom of the North Alliance Premier Division with 1 point from 12 games played, with a -42 goal difference.

Meanwhile, West Allotment Celtic say they have launched a Reserve side, with the former Bedlington Terriers team to now operate under the club’s umbrella as West Allotment Celtic Reserves.

CLUB STATEMENT:

“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that Bedlington Terriers Football Club must announce that the club will be folding with immediate effect.

“This is an incredibly difficult moment for everyone connected with the Terriers. A club with such a long and proud history, built by generations of players, volunteers, supporters, and officials, has been an important part of the local community for many years. The memories created on and off the pitch will never be forgotten.

“The decision to bring the club to an end has not been taken lightly. Despite the tireless efforts of those involved to keep the club going, circumstances have made it impossible to continue. It is heartbreaking to see a club with so much tradition and passion come to an end in this way.

“We would like to thank all players, managers, coaches, committee members, sponsors, and supporters who have represented and supported Bedlington Terriers Football Club over the years. Your commitment, loyalty, and love for the club are what made it special.

“While the club may no longer continue, its legacy will live on in the memories of everyone who had the privilege of being part of Bedlington Terriers Football Club.”

They added in a further tweet: “It’s a sad fact that the club folding will get more traction in the media and more attention than it has throughout this whole affair since being relegated by the FA to the Alliance for ground grading issues to the council and SISWO removing us from our ground and to us being mentioned in parliament. @talkSPORT @BBCSport @itvfootball @PeteGravesTV @SkySports”

WEST ALLOTMENT CELTIC STATEMENT:

“West Allotment Celtic is pleased to announce the formation of a Reserve side as it looks to develop a pathway into senior football.

“The former Bedlington Terriers team, who currently compete in the Northern Alliance Premier Division, will now operate under the club’s umbrella as West Allotment Celtic Reserves.

“This move shows West Allotment Celtic’s commitment to supporting local talent and giving players a chance to take the next step in their football careers. The Reserves team will keep competing in the Northern Alliance Premier Division, giving young players an important platform to push for a place in the first team.

“The club is dedicated to developing young players as it approaches its 100th anniversary in 2028. Any player interested in joining the new reserve side, which will also train alongside the first team, is invited to email hello@westallotmentcelticfc.co.uk.”

@DeanMNicho21378: What a sad, sad day for northern football with bedlington Terriers man. Once a huge club with a brilliant side and lots of history. Huge shame

@AlnwickTownAFC: Horrible news. As clubs we have competed on the pitch for decades. From the outside looking in it seemed almost inevitable. There wouldn’t be many clubs that would survive losing their home. It’s a massive loss to Non League football, not just the North East.

@John_the_hawk: I heard the cheers from my house on the other side of the river when they beat Colchester 4-1 in the Cup in 1998. 😞

@Shaunmeatballs: I was involved with the club for a lot of years and @N_landCouncil never had any time for the football team, they would turn up in the glory days, for the big games and when the publicity with Bob Rich hit the headlines, but in between all them years they hated the club. No help. it’s Such a shame how they have been treated, when all the money was going to Ashington football club the Terriers had to fund itself for years and years. people in power should hang their heads in shame, they allowed this to happen, because they choose not to help. disgraceful

@LenMaidsto67782: Football is nothing without its roots. Hate what the game has become.

@HoppersGuide: I will never understand local authorities not helping their sports teams. They are the beating heart of the community and give people a respite from the humdrum routine at the weekends

@Keithhutch30: The amount of money washing around football at the minute, how a club like Bedlington Terriers is allowed to fold is an absolute embarrassment.

@terrierdaveuk: Scum council, Charities Ommission, CISWO. They can all f off in shame.

@daveroberts64: It was an absolute pleasure to bring the SKY cameras to spend some time with you during the FA Cup run two decades ago. The games may cease but the name will live on!

@peterwealdstone: I remember you doing well in the FA Cup many years ago and seeing you on the MOTD highlights. I’d love for you to come back.

@neilwatson01: I’m upset to hear this. Bedlington was a ground I used to love going to. It was always a good atmosphere there. Also the clubhouse service was superb.

@IsaacStatue: Greetings from Kent. Gutted for you. I visited you some years ago, was warmly welcomed, and took a Bedlington Terriers scarf back to Kent for a friend in Margate who was the proud owner of a Bedlington terrier. Hoping there’s a phoenix club in the future 🙏 This has upset me

@lawlor_bri59512: Heartbreaking to read that the club has had to fold. So many people work hard to keep clubs such as @BTFCOfficial going and it is a real struggle to survive. Good luck to everyone involved with the club for the future.

@daleskitt: Awful news, can a new club be formed in time for next season? Whilst it’s sadly the end of the club but hopefully it won’t be the end of senior football in Bedlington, wishing you all the best for the future.
