Fans left gutted as manager leaves club despite being second in the table

Fans have been left gutted as a manager leaves an Isthmian League club this week despite being second in the South Central Division table.

Their last couple of seasons have been dreadful, but just when it looked like the good times were returning at Staines Town, it has been dealt a blow.

Paul Barnes came into the non league club on the 28th of February 2020, however after a bleak finish the abandoned 2019/20 season, they have become high flyers for the 2020/21 campaign and looked like contenders for promotion.

Staines described Paul as having built a strong reputation in the game and brought with him a wealth of experience.

He had spells at Welling United, Ashford United and Margate in the role of assistant manager and first team coach capacities.

Paul was also manager at Greenwich Borough during the 2017/18 season, leading the club to the play-offs.

Paul has successfully obtained his UEFA A License and wasted no time in getting to know their players.

Fast forward to January 2021 and he’s decided to leave the club.

STAINES STATEMENT:

STFC regret to announce Paul Barnes has resigned from his position as First Team Manger with immediate effect.

Paul has decided that the time is right for him to leave his position in order for him to commit to other projects.

We would like to thank him for his work during his 10 months at Wheatsheaf Park and wish him all the best for the future.

The Club will begin the search for a new First Team Manager immediately.

Fans gave their reaction and it’s fair to say they were left gutted as the manager leaves the club despite being second in the table…

@THERussellGrant: The saddest news for one of my great Middlesex non-league clubs @StainesTownFC @Barnsey299 is one of the best things to happen to the club but I totally understand in our present troubled times and the uncertainty it behoves it is important to pursue those things we have personal control over. Good luck, Paul, with your future. Keeping your mind, body and spirit active is so important in these dormant times when we need to be Bush. As the club Patron I speak for many when I say we are grateful our paths crossed albeit for a short time.
