Fans hit back at an 9th tier club with their Twitter admin deeming a red card ‘harsh’ as the footballer shows off a gruesome injury.
Faversham Town played host to Rusthall on Saturday afternoon, with the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division game finishing in a 2-2 draw, but the hosts had three players sent off.
The first of the three came on 62 minutes, with the club tweeting: “The referee has sent off Ben Gorham for a high foot, a very harsh decision that….”
Faversham followed that up by tweeting on another red on 86 minutes: “Seems the referee likes a red card, Matt Newman now been given his marching orders.”
Then on 90 minutes, they tweeted: “He has now given KC a second yellow, we are now down to 8 men. 🤦🏻♂️”
Connie Powell, the wife of Danny Powell who was on the end of the high boot for the first Faversham red card, gave an update.
She wrote: “Thank you for all your messages of support and well wishes to Danny.
“He’s had 30 stitches, laser on his retina to stop it detaching as he has 2 tears on it and told he was 1cm away from losing his eye.
“Long road to recovery and will be out of work for a while but he’s home now and me and the kids are looking after him ❤️”
Rusthall posted: “Speedy recovery, @DannyPowell9! 💚🤍 Thank you very much to the @FavershamTownFC physio, Martin Milodanovic for his assistance this afternoon. #RusthallFC 🟢⚪️”
Faversham Town then said upon seeing the player’s injury: “Everyone at Faversham Town would like to wish @DannyPowell9 a speedy recovery.”
2/2 Long road to recovery and will be out of work for a while but he’s home now and me and the kids are looking after him ❤️

@Specsavers think you could help give @FavershamTownFC fans some free eye tests? pic.twitter.com/EJCPPEHVtF

As mentioned, fans hit back at the 9th tier club calling a red card ‘harsh’ as the footballer shows off the gruesome injury which saw the boot being a 1cm from away from losing his eye…
@StylesyR: Hope you recover soon @DannyPowell9 one of the most honest, hard working players there is. Sorry to see this but you’ll be back my friend x
@MitchJesse: Any apology yet?
@saltnlineker1: Thats a red all day long, foot is high, all studs showing and out of control. I think as a club you need to take this tweet down and wholeheartedly apologise.
@saltnlineker1: Wish Danny well, I suffered a similar injury many years ago, bling in my right eye for 3 days after it caused a burst blood vessel, also a broken eye socket. All Ok now though. I hope he fully recovers.
@sidsollis8: Nearly lost his eye and you say it’s a very harsh decision 🤡
@crowsunofficial: I’m all for being biased, and god knows we love @DannyPowell9 but have you seen the clip? If that foot was any higher, your player would’ve kicked himself in the back of the head. Jeez!
@paulfoskett: Think this tweet needs to be removed and an apology given!
@JoeG2571: From a Faversham fan, hate to see this kind of injury from an accident, get well soon Danny and best of luck for your remaining games of the season.
@lee_scanlan: Very harsh in that you can only give one red for it 🫣🤔
@barriepickett: Please pass on my best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to @DannyPowell9
@TimGale8: Wow, harsh 😳 sort of team that only tweets when they win
@JoshFermor: 😂😂 look at how close that is to his eye!? Danny nearly losing an eye and the club tweets “bit harsh” absolutely shocking, oh btw they are also on their 8th new number 9 in 7 months, absolute 🤡’s. But it’s fine as they have now tweeted “hope he recovers well” 😂 💙💚DP
@robbiebissett: Still good looking
@roch_91_: Fucking hell 😳
@RyanCheek1996: Oh my, hope he’s ok and it hasn’t done too much damage @DannyPowell9 get better soon matey
@kenbromley: Not harsh at all when you see the consequences! Wishing you a speedy recovery Danny.
@groundhopper80: That was accidental no way he intended to hurt the other player looking at that clip. Yes it’s a red card tho.
@wolfey_0: No1 said it was intentional, but for @FavershamTownFC media & manager to say it was a harsh red nearly taking someone’s eye out has upset a lot of people . Poor bloke is self employed and can’t work for min of 2 weeks @FavershamTownFC do the right thing help him pay his bills £££
@Barbara61667592: Get well soon Danny x x 🤔
@CrowboroughAFC: Funny how some only see what they seem to want to see. Get well soon Danny.
