Fans give their feedback after being asked by Sunderland to review their first light show

Fans give their feedback after being asked by Sunderland to review their first light show which took place on Tuesday night.

The Stadium of Light’s inaugural light show took place before their Championship fixture against Derby County, and will be repeated for every evening/night fixture going forward.

The club said when announcing the light show: “Powered by Thorn Lighting, the show will begin at 19:30 and include flashing lights synced to the Club’s pre-match playlist to amplify the final countdown to kick off.

“The show will conclude as the teams exit the tunnel and enter the field of play, and the technology may also be utilised for a short period after the final whistle.

“Following a summer of significant investment at the Stadium of Light, including the installation of a Bose Professional sound system, the show will add a new dimension to the matchday experience on Wearside.

“Supporters with photosensitive disorders, sensitivities to strobe lighting and/or adverse reactions to flashing light are advised that they may wish to avoid being within the stadium bowl until the show has concluded.”

Sunderland beat Derby County 2-0 at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night; Jobe Bellingham and Wilson Isidor sent the Black Cats back to the top of the table with a victory.

The black Cats are on 18 points after 8 games played while Derby are 14th with 9 points. Sunderland take on 5th place Leeds (with 15 points) on Friday.

As mentioned, fans give their feedback after being asked by Sunderland to review their first light show…

@TonyAyton: Little too long- I’d switch it off as players come out. Not sure if H&S would like this but a period of darkness before with some links to the mining aspects of the city on the screens prior to the lighthouse would bring both industries into the pre match and help it pop further

@_RGRZ: Keep it for the lighthouse bit and the dance of the knights but have it end when the players lineup

@BrownSlices: Thought it was great and got the crowd up a bit. Should be used sparingly though. Thought Leeds would have been a better game to debut it

@twangmackem: Loved it. I can’t say how much I love the foghorn or ships horn whichever it is. And sounded even better last night. Keep it going please. Also look at getting the big searchlights back on at nighttime

@L11G:
+ Loved the Foghorn leading into Dance of the Knights.
– Went on too long (loses impact) should stop as players come out of tunnel.
– No need after game.
– Few sound issues to iron out
Overall though lovely to be trying new things 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️🔴⚪️

@howsoonisnoo: Lighthouse / foghorn bit was class, that then straight in to dance of the knights. Was too long last night.

@ShieldsMPSAFC: Too long. Needs to be off when players enter. Otherwise it’s unfair on those with medical issues.

@EthanOsafc: some of it before the game was ok but having it at full time was just unnecessary.

@redhead_carl: @NUFC please no matter what future Premier league or European games we play, never stoop this low. 🤞🤞

@Sunlundy: Loved when the lights go out and you use the red from the electronic banners

@WynnJ1974: Can you make it flash geeet bright letters to say WILL FROM HEBBURN HAS TO BE UP FOR THE GYM AT 4:45AM BUT IS STAYING TIL THE END?

@RokerReport: Bet the bairns absolutely loved it. Adds something new to the matchday experience. Well done to all

@JoeFabulous11: Get the 4 searchlights on the roof fired up as well. Would look mint.

@tenchylad: It was good and something different. Possibly wider selection of music ahead of kick off. Afterwards I am not fully convinced we need a lightshow as could be perceived we are celebrating a victory like we have won the league ? Don’t know , but good effort and looking forward.

@Scookie555: I like the idea of it – I think it needs to be kept for big occasions and take place in the peak 5 mins before kick off instead of 15 mins before because the ground was half empty when it started

@hawaysafc: if it’s perfected it’s a great addition to matchday. definitely not 15 minutes worth of it. 5 minutes of good build up and job done.

@DThompson_90: Me and my son loved it, but I think it’s very unfair on epileptic fans to not be able to applaud the lads on to and off the pitch. Should finish before Dance of the Knights to give people a chance to get to their seats before the lads come out.

@Lainedil_NUFC: Highlighting all the empty seats was a brilliant idea! 👌🏻👏🏻

@johnkaystractor: It was good maybe save the 15m spectacular for the big nights. A5 min rendition with lighthouse fog horn dance of the nights for the night games. The red and white on the advertising boards was great too

@janeelx_: Thought it was class! Went on for a little too long though. Personally I’d keep it with the light house and dance of the nights and scrap it at full time. Class regardless though

@AbsDoug: Lighthouse & horn was tremendous – did think 10+ mins was too long though. What might be better is horn played before the key buildup songs then dance of the knights and finish after ready to go 👌

@AdamJackman1: Thought it was decent to be fair. Improved massively if, we returned the huge search lights that completely dominated the skyline when the SOL opened.

@JonnyRussell93:
– Ships horn is class, exactly the right thing for atmosphere
– Just do the horn, dance of the knights, then finish on RtG as the players walk out. The rest is too much
– Didnt work as well after final whistle
– Bringing the search beams back would top it off!

@MartinWSports: Really liked it and things like that make a difference to the overall experience though some will whinge about anything. Constructive criticism: it went on a little long before the game, so the novelty wears off a bit, and I would stop it as the teams are coming out.

@TSlarkmeister: Thought it was class especially when the lights went out and the ships fog horns kicked in. Only thing that’s springs to mind that would add to it is to have some flashing red lights in the show

@Dan1879_SAFC: Very good, but probably shouldn’t be as long as it was last night. The horn, followed by Dance of the Knights and Ready to Go would be enough. It’ll be class after a big win too, hopefully on Friday night!

@gazk_mackem: Needs to better timed with the music, and it’s not needed while we sing Wise Men Say. I did like the fog horn but then just have the red lights on for the dance of the nights, and the players walking out. You could then do something with the lights for our goal celebrations.

@safc_lex: Well I liked it. And so did Isidor at full time judging by his antics! Sometimes think the club can’t do right for doing wrong at times, people will twist on 21 whenever anything new is introduced. I had a whale of a time!

@Fodderick: Superb… My daughter and I really enjoyed it. Complemented the atmosphere. Especially liked when the floodlights are turned down and the stadium is bathed in a red glow from the advertising boards. Bit of a delay after the final whistle, hopefully that will be sorted 👍🔴⚪️🔴⚪️
