Fans demand three points as League One game is postponed 30 minutes from kick off

Fans demand three points to be awarded to their side as a League One game is postponed with just over 30 minutes from the 3pm kick off.

At precisely 2:26pm, Oxford United revealed that their fixture against Crewe Alexandra was called off due to one of the away side’s players contracting coronavirus.

He was notified of having it early on Saturday morning, with both clubs preparing for what would have been their fourth league game of the 2020/21 season.

CREWE STATEMENT:

This afternoon’s Sky Bet League One fixture between Oxford United and Crewe Alexandra has been postponed due to a positive case of COVID-19 being identified within the Crewe Alexandra squad.

Each case is judged on its individual merits, and due to the circumstances, the Club has advised the EFL it is unable to fulfil the fixture as players and first team staff are now required to self-isolate in line with EFL and Government guidance.

A revised date for the rearranged fixture will be confirmed in due course.

OXFORD STATEMENT:

Oxford United’s home game against Crewe Alexandra has been called off this afternoon after one of the visiting players tested positive for coronavirus.

The player tested positive this morning after travelling down on the Crewe team coach the previous day. Crewe manager Dave Artell informed Karl Robinson and the teams, in consultation with the match officials, the EFL and the relevant authorities, decided to call off the game.

No new date has yet been announced.

The U’s nearly didn’t play out last weekend’s fixture against Accrington Stanley over a bizarre situation prior to the game.

As part of coronavirus precautions, an alcohol-based spray is deployed once everyone is let onto the coach.

This in turn triggered the breathalyser used by the bus driver as a safety measure, and subsequently left the team stranded at their hotel half an hour away from the Crown Ground.

The coach driver had not touched a drop but the 70% proof spray rendered the coach unusable for the next six hours.

So squad members had to find an alternative way to make it so they could play out the fixture. Read what manager Karl Robinson had to say by clicking HERE.
