Fans criticise police after Wrexham fan gets 3-YEAR BAN for ‘racism’ towards Tranmere fans

Fans have taken to criticise North Wales Police after a Wrexham fan gets a 3-YEAR BAN for ‘racism’ towards Tranmere fans.

21-year old Daniel Thomas Monk admitted to approaching a group of Tranmere fans being escorted towards the stadium by police and shouted ‘dirty Scouse b*****ds’…

He followed that up by returning with a group of men and yelling ‘dirty English b*****ds’.

But fans on social media are questioning if a 3-year ban is a fair punishment with many taking aim at the decision as you can see in the reaction further down in the article.

On Tuesday (April 2), Daniel Thomas Monk, residing at Moss Valley Brow, New Broughton, appeared before Wrexham Magistrates Court.

The 21-year-old confessed to committing a racially aggravated public order offence on the 16th March 2024.

During the hearing, Justin Espie, the prosecutor, highlighted that the incident took place on the same day as the home match between Wrexham AFC and Tranmere Rovers.

Mr. Espie also mentioned that the police considered this match to be of “high risk” due to a previous incident in 2003, where more than 30 hooligans were imprisoned following a significant disturbance between the two clubs.

The court heard that Tranmere Rovers supporters were being escorted by the police along Crispin Lane when Monk approached a police line which separated the two sets of fans. Monk was heard calling the Tranmere fans “dirty English b*******”.

Police body worn footage revealed that Monk, who had no prior criminal record, later arrived with a group of other individuals, during which he verbally attacked the Tranmere fans by referring to them as “dirty English b*******”.

Monk, employed as a chef at Maesgwyn Hall and the Fat Boar, was subsequently apprehended at the scene. In his defence, Alex McKenzie stated that Monk is deeply apologetic for his uncharacteristic actions and regrets resorting to a racist slur.

McKenzie further explained that Monk was part of a larger group engaging in similar behaviour, and that there were retaliatory insults from some of the opposing fans.

Monk was banned from attending football matches for a period of three years and also given a fine of £768.

As mentioned, fans criticise police after a Wrexham fan gets a 3-YEAR BAN for ‘racism’ towards Tranmere fans at a League Two fixture…

@Shaunwrexham: Football on its arse! The proper passionate football fan being driven out the game soon. It’s a bloody football match

@McCale: This is petty. If this is a hate crime, could @NWPolice advise what they consider about every away visitor that call us sheep shaggers week in week out? Will they be arresting them?

@AdamGrif1: Absolute disgrace. NWP, not the lad.

@MattG824824: As someone who doesn’t live in the UK, this blows my mind. There was a legal proceeding, involving a court, because someone called someone a name? If I’m understanding that correctly, that is absolutely insane. I’m sure there are more pressing issues the government could be spending time and resources on. Or maybe I’m misunderstanding something.

@KandtRw: The English are a race?!? I understand him being arrested for aggressive, disruptive or potentially volatile behavior, but to say he hurled a racial slur is inaccurate & absurd. Minimizes real instances of racism & hate speech.

@davekeighley80: @NWPolice @NWPFootballUnit made a rod for your own backs here, this is laughable. It goes on from both sides multiple times each game so assume all the Tranmere fans are getting done too ? Lost any support in the area now! @talkSPORT

@wxm_afc: Why do you feel the need to name his place of work? Anyway, NWP has made a rod for their own backs now.

@davis887: As Tranmere fan who attended the game, I find this absolutely ridiculous. There has always been “needle” between both sets of fans forever. If I’d heard this I certainly wouldn’t have been offended!!! Lads life probably ruined, lose job for a couple of throwaway comments!!!

@dagnall_mark: Really harsh, it’s football banter, as a Welsh TRFC fan I’m not offended, I understand oblongers would be offended being called scouse but it’s part of the game. Police have always over reacted and been overly heavy handed at these games.

@TranmereMoaners: One less Welsh fan in the ground they can replace with a tourist. Absolute joke of a decision.

@JamesEastwood83: This is just so pathetic. Stop the world I want to get off of this is ‘offensive’.

@CraigPerkins17: Utterly outrageous and well over the top.

@7puzzle: We’ll have to remember this one!! A racist slur? 😜

@Cianevans280702: NWP 🤦🏻‍♂️ If they had their way football would be banned in North Wales

@BillyWo38797314: Games gone soft

@BluenoseMa16443: Joke this

@ChrisHamdy23: Haha ‘dirty English and Scouse’ someone needs to let him know the history about that 😂

@bozzatrfc: That’s absolutely ridiculous

@TRFC1980: Well over the top.

@millsytrfc: I’d 100% appeal that, absolutely ridiculous decision. No precedent in law.

@Bensco92: That’s over the top. Poor lad

@dagnall_mark: Anyone fancy setting up a go fund me to cover the lads fine, can’t be doing without me Sunday roast at the fat Boer.

@ubi87peninsula: Shocking from the Heddlu, you’ve just ruined a young mans life to justify you’re OTT policing presence. Non of us tranmere fans would bat an eyelid at what he was said.

@loneranger0714: Fuck me heard worse at matches, doesn’t deserve a banning order

@HarryMcNally00: First one , large scale disorder at PP ? Bollocks Second where’s the racist slur ? Should of contested it and took it to jury

@JoeJurkojc: Do they get a kick out of banning people. poor bugger

@SimonHacker11: This decision seems to do a great disservice to efforts to rid football of racism sexism and true menace. The only positive is that it cuts across clubs and unites us in saying don’t be so bloody ridiculous.

@jordandavies98: If I reported getting called a sheep shagger every time it happened, we’d be playing in front of no fans for 3 years 🤷‍♂️

@Colemans_Dream: This is mad. I assume the police will be giving every away section who comes to Wales 3 year banning orders for singing “sheep shaggers” too?

@NottsCountyZone: Absolutely fucking outrageous that this has resulted in a three year ban.

@AndrewEvans42: A 3 year ban for calling someone a scouse cunt is a fucking joke. We get called sheep shagging cunts every Saturday and no one gives a fuck. Pathetic

@ZaaanderSmith: £768 fine and 3 year banning order for calling us “Dirty scouse bastards” and “Dirty English bastards” absolutely ridiculous that is. Pathetic in fact.

@dodgewrexham: April fools was yesterday. This is mental so are we banning every away supporter that sings about us being sheep shagging bastards?

@jessbrz_: If that’s ‘racist’ then what is “sheepshaggers”? Seen and heard far worse than this at matches.

@Turkey_Twizzler: Banned for 3 years for calling someone scouse and English bastards, you taking the piss ?

@RYJJ1997: I don’t reckon I’ve ever been to a Wrexham game where the away fans haven’t called us sheep shaggers or a third world country etc. Going off this logic there should be a lot more banning orders coming for opposition fans.

@NYCFirm: “dirty English bastard” is now a racial slur according to the courts & cops? Seems like deliberately missing the point of how racism works, but I’m just a foreigner.

@DanWrexham: That’s an absolute fucking joke 😂 What next, banning every away fan that comes into the ground because they call us sheep shagging bastards, and every home fan because we call ourselves sheep shagging bastards?

@joshwilliamsDNO: 3 year ban for that? 😂😂😂😂😂

@enolajon: A 3 year banning order for saying “dirty English bastards” and “dirty Scouse bastards”. What a complete nonsense and a very dangerous precedent set.

@Aidan1864: End wokeness, north wales police should be defunded

@matevans01: Another belter to add to the wonderful policing experience Wrexham fans get, pathetic

@ChrisTa69386568: That’s absolutely scandalous, he might be a @Wrexham_AFC knob head but that’s way over the top

@TranmereEdition: Terrible decision. But it’s that mob so it is absolutely hilarious.

@Salop1977: Outrageous this 😐 We get called English and Welsh bastards weekly wonder what the ban is for that #Salop

@davekeighley80: Wow this is bollocks, that is not a racist slur at all and to get 3 year ban! So next week NWP will be arresting and banning 1000 away fans for singing sheep shagging bastards or welsh bastards a presume ??

@ST_1982: What an absolutely ridiculous punishment for something that happens up and down the UK every match day.

@GeorgeJonesWxm: That’s an absolute joke! Every single club who comes here calls us Sheep Shaggers so what’s the difference

@ilikeblobfish1: Absolutely ridiculous, you can say what you want about the morality/necessity of what he said but if we banned everyone who said something a bit rude at a football game then there’d be no fans left.

@trfcryan: Football is well and truly dead now

@macca0397: Think we are all better off watching the games at home … absolutely pathetic this where did it all go wrong

@millsytrfc: That’s ridiculous 😂, what’s the world coming to ffs.

@WrexhamSunny147: If he gets a 3 year ban for this then why aren’t opposition fans that call us sh**p sha**ers and bring inflatable sheep to the ground to throw about not being punished? It works both ways but I guess it doesn’t matter when the racism or derogatory terms are being aimed at us.
