Fan falls over hoarding celebrating goal with Charlton players in ‘sh*thousery’ at Cheltenham

A Charlton fan falls over the advertising hoarding celebrating a goal with Addicks players in cheeky ‘sh*thousery’ at Cheltenham.

It was a big much needed result for Charlton in midweek, securing a crucial win as Tyreeq Bakinson and Alfie May scored late goals, easing their relegation fears.

Daniel Kanu put them ahead in the first half, then Liam Sercombe’s equaliser in the 70th minute looked to have made it a nervy finish.

However, late strikes from Bakinson and May ensured that Nathan Jones’ team now sits comfortably seven points above their opponents and the relegation zone.

New footage has emerged showing fans going wild, while players also had a good laugh at Cheltenham’s expense.

Dan Kanu shushed the home fans when celebrating while ex-Cheltenham player Alfie May also was seen loving what Charlton fans were singing…

Charlton boss Nathan Jones said, per southlondon.co.uk: “I thought we were magnificent. This is a real brutal place to come: how they play, they put you under pressure, you’ve got to win first, you’ve got to win seconds, you’ve got to handle so much intensity and I thought we were brilliant.

“I’d have taken any win tonight. But an away win against these with the way that they’re performing shows that we’re in a really good place.

“Once again we showed character, we showed quality. After leading and not being under too much pressure, once we conceded we handled it, made changes and then took the game away from them.

“Daniel Kanu was a threat all night, and he kept going. I’m pleased for Tyreeq because we left Tyreeq out on the weekend and he’s come back in and scored.”

May, who joined Charlton from Cheltenham for £250,000 last summer, has gone on to score 18 goals in League One this season.

Jones said: “I thought he was doing them a favour, right up until he tapped that one in the net, because he had a lot of chances to score tonight.

“We played him because he’s used to scoring on this ground. So I’m pleased for him that he scored.”

“The games are thick and fast,” Jones added. “I’ve had seven games since I’ve been here, and five of them have been away.

“We’ve been on the road so we’ve been travelling, just preparing. The schedule is just crazy.

“The fans were magnificent again tonight, and to travel here after everything that’s been going on. So it’s a really good night for the football club.”

Cheltenham Town boss Darrell Clarke said, per GloucestershireLive: “It was an end-to-end game. We have come out of it disappointed. It’s a disappointed changing room, obviously. But I have said to my players in there, they’ve given me absolutely everything since I have been through the door. It’s one of those nights when it wasn’t our night. I thought when we got the equaliser, we might go on to win it. A couple of sloppy goals from our perspective lost us the game.

“It was an end to end game. When you are playing a club like Charlton, I know they are down there with us, but with the resources they’ve got, compared to what we’ve got, for us to go toe-to-toe with them, which we have done with a lot of teams this season – we are going to have to continue to do that. They had a little bit more than us at times tonight, but we haven’t embarrassed ourselves, that’s for sure.

“I thought we’d get a goal, yes, and get back into the game. I am always glass half full and positive and I thought once we got the equaliser, we might go on and win it, but it wasn’t to be tonight.

“Of course, we don’t want to be conceding goals of that manner late in the game, but I won’t be too critical of my boys. We are on a little bit of a run with two draws and two losses and we have to keep positive. I’ll keep the group positive. We have honest, hard-working lads in that changing room giving everything for the football club and we’ll make sure we continue to do that and move forward to Saturday’s game (at Oxford United).”
