The FA are to investigate suspicious betting patterns surrounding the booking of Oxford United player Ciaron Brown, according to reports.
Sportsmail have been told that the Football Association have evidence regarding supposed corruption, including alleged phone messages prior to kick off for the League One side’s FA Cup game against Arsenal on Monday night.
It found that Brown would be booked in a betting scam which would allegedly cost one bookmaker more than £1,600 with one message said to show a betting slip with around £200 staked on Brown being yellow-carded at odds of 8/1.

The 24-year-old Northern Ireland defender was booked in the 59th minute for bringing down Bukayo Saka with as the score remained goalless, with Mohamed Elneny going on to put the Gunners in front four minutes later.
Eddie Nketiah then sealed the win with a double, giving the Premier League leaders a 3-0 win at the Kassam Stadium, with the game televised on ITV1.
Sportsmail add that it is unclear how many bets were placed on Brown being booked and the extent of other bookmakers’ liabilities, however the FA are taking the matter seriously.
Eyewitnesses at the game told Sportsmail they saw several Arsenal fans celebrating after Brown was shown a yellow card, with a number of them taking to brag about winning a couple hundred quid.

This is what twitter users said as the FA investigate suspicious betting patterns surrounding the booking of the Oxford player…
@TheSomZons: So 8/1 for Brown (A CB playing at LB) to get booked against Saka whilst all of the betting sites were using this bet as part of their promo? The referee isn’t being investigated for match fixing & giving out the booking that categorically wasn’t a booking. #OUFC #COYY
@JWYOUFC: A L1 naturally CB playing LB against one of the best wingers in the PL if not the world. Good probability he’ll get booked. Most PL LB’s get booked v Saka. @FA, focus on the corruption of David Coote. 2mins injury time for 6 subs, 3 goals, and nemourise FK’s to Arsenal. #OUFC
@andywilmer: Well this isn’t good. Will be hard to defend when you see the evidence. Of course Brown could claim he doesn’t know the guy but it’s very coincidental. #OUFC
@sophiee__14: How about you look into the ref – sire decisions and 2mins added time when it should have been a min of 6
@NathanielOUFC: The biggest crime is the bookies putting 8/1 on a CB playing LB to get booked against one of the best wingers in the Prem 🤣
@ri_davies1: Pricing a league 1 fullback 8/1 to get booked up against arguably the best winger in the prem at the minute is wrong in the first place 😂
@JD_OUFC: Pretty damning evidence in my opinion… The message for one, but I watched the replay back. It was an unnecessary pull to the ground, right in front of the ref. And then to be sure, he walks away with the ball and rolls it away, pretty much guaranteeing a yellow. Could argue that it’s a LB having to defend Saka. But it wasn’t like Saka was aggressively attacking necessitating a hard challenge. Of course, these are just my observations and none of us will be any the wiser until the investigation has been finalised. Match fixing isn’t something I condone. IMO it’s right that it should be investigated and we just hope that it isn’t true
@DanielDavis90: Rough translation the bookies didn’t like paying out that much 👍🏻
@Tambourineman88: 8/1 is a ludicrous price for a full-back to be booked, the bookmaker needs to investigate the odds compilers bank account
@M_v_Baron: Did @ivantoney24 have a tenner on it?
@OufcGoody: 8-1 was a great price tbf I only got 9/2 😯
@liamcog: To me, the only thing I find shady here is the sports book. 8/1 odds of a yellow card on a League 1 CB playing at LB matched up against arguably the best RW in the Premier League is absolutely insane lmao.
@Burkosss: All the betting companies do is scumbag there customers left right and centre. It’s good to see a few people have rattled there cages by having a punt on ciaron brown last night 😄🖕🏼
@lukesamuellll: Ciaron brown gonna be in the shit then 🤦♂️
@ZBadger11: Should investigate why he had to commit so many deliberate fouls on Saka to get a single yellow.
The leaked messaged looks pretty convincing, Ciaron Brown is in trouble. https://t.co/p5QPEVGUSc pic.twitter.com/OIfGW7ADm4
