FA Cup Third Round sees eight upsets including non league club knock out Championship side

The FA Cup was back in action this weekend, this time it was the Third Round and once again we got to see a few more shocks.

National League side Barnet beat Championship promotion hopeful Sheffield United 1-0 thanks to a 21st minute penalty scored by Shaq Coulthirst.

The other non league side left in the competition was Woking, however they were knocked out by Watford who came out 2-0 winners, the Cards did do well not to concede many more goals.

Getting back to the upsets now and another club surprising the football world was League One side Accrington Stanley who like Barnet also won their match by 1-0, Billy Kee with the only goal (as predicted by a young Stanley fan on Football Focus yesterday) 14 minutes from time.

Also from League One, Gillingham stunned many by beating Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City to advance through to the next round as Elliott List scored a late winner to beat the Premier League strugglers 1-0.

Another winning by a goal to nil was Lee Johnson’s Bristol City against Huddersfield Town. Josh Brownhill managed to beat keeper Ben Hamer at his near post following a brilliant solo run. Terriers boss David Wagner stated that the defeat was “very, very difficult to take”.

League Two Oldham Athletic this afternoon came back from a goal down to find a late winner against Caludio Ranieri’s Fulham at Craven Cottage to put themselves in the hat for the Fourth Round draw. Callum Lang headed in from a Gevaro Nepomuceno cross to produce scenes from the away end.

The evening kick off saw League Two side Newport County stun Premier League Leicester City. Jamille Matt headed in Robbie Willmott’s cross for a shock lead just 10 minutes into the game. The 82nd minute saw Rachid Ghezzal put in a rebound for the equaliser before Amond scored a penalty three minutes later penalty to regain lead after Albrighton’s handball.

Other upsets saw Doncaster Rovers from League One beat league above Preston North End 3-1 and Portsmouth knocked out Norwich City 1-0.
