Exeter player admits attacking woman in city centre; to go on trial for alleged assault on another

Exeter City player Jevani Brown admits attacking a woman in the city centre, but is also to go on trial for alleged assault on another.

The attacking midfielder, 28, pleaded guilty to assaulting a female, but is facing a second charge for an alleged attack on another woman, to which he denies.

Brown, who is from Luton in Bedfordshire, will now be absent for the remainder of the season with Exeter saying he won’t be selected for the entire duration of the case.

Exeter magistrates have confirmed that Brown will be on trial in July on the assault charge he denies. Magistrates adjourned the case to the trial date. Brown was granted unconditional bail until then.

Since February, Brown, who represented Jamaica at the international level, hasn’t played or trained with his side.

He has scored 14 goals and nine assists in 32 appearances this season for his League One side.

The club said in a statement: “Jevani Brown appeared at Exeter Magistrates Court this morning in relation to an incident in February. He pleaded guilty to one charge of assault and not guilty to a second charge of assault.

“A trial date has now been set to hear the case at Exeter Crown Court on July 7. As the legal proceedings remain active there will be no further comment from Exeter City Football Club.”

It was in February 2023, that Exeter have announced that Jevani Brown, the top scorer for the club, would not be playing in the League One fixture with Charlton Athletic because of a ‘club discipline matter’.

Exeter City wrote: “Jevani Brown did not train with the team today and will not play in tomorrow’s game against Charlton Athletic due to a club disciplinary matter.”

Twitter user Kayley @KayleyYasmin, tweeted: “@OfficialECFC forgot to mention his attacked on my sober 20 year old sister unprovoked, while he was drunk & high. Spitting in her face, shouting abuse & punching her in the face to knock her to the ground and punching her in the back of her head repeatedly @jevanibrown scum bag.”

“and why would he be disciplined if he was innocent 🤔🤔”

Fans have reacted as the Exeter player admits attacking a woman in the city centre, and s to go on trial for an alleged assault on another…

@charlie05090: Sounds like end of the road for jev 😭

@JackHawker2: Out of contract end of season so I guess we’re just waiting to let him go

@roddersecfc: That’s the last we’ve seen of jevani brown in a city shirt then 😐

@MightyMillers20: He ain’t coming in summer then 😬

@Jbunter7: Such a shame. Could have left a real legacy at this club for the right reasons, but unfortunately that’s been tarnished. #ECFC

@Z1ANF10: Pretty vile, but Plymouth fans trying to score points on this when their goalkeeper killed two children is weird as fuck.

@Ajl_3692: Disgusting prick

@CarefreeeCam: Honestly just a shame. Was such a good player for us, would’ve probably got his big move this summer and he goes and fucks it for himself

@matty_cl: Get him gone. Ta da 👋🏼

@tomisnotaking: Quality player. Stupid actions. Will and should get treated like every other person under law. Stop bringing up others players mistakes though people, you’re making it too easy for the scum #ecfc

@Leanne_Howard99: We dodged a bullet Pompey

@harry_rufc: big bullet dodged for us that, don’t want a scummy bastard bringing club down with him if we’d of got him

@exetercity1904: The club have handled this situation absolutely brilliantly, and many clubs can take note on this! As for Argyle fans commenting on this, just remember your club and some of the ‘players’ you’ve employed in the past. #ECFC

@olliebaylis43: Statement speaks for itself. Stupid actions by a quality player

@MichaelConnor27: Hahaha we were so lucky to not get him

@PlymuffWACE: The quote tweets 🤣🤣🤣 It will always amaze me how they’ll never be critical of their own because we had Luke McCormick. And they’ll never understand the definition of murder either. Weird little lot #pafc #ecfc

@josh_ebling: The amount of city fans bringing up Luke Mccormick after hearing about this is embarrassing, almost like a get out clause

@loucey83: Stuck by him when he attacked a woman last year, stayed quiet when fans were singing about an argyle fan dying on a ferry. proper scummy club that deserves to go out of business.
