Former Reading and Leeds United boss Brian McDermott has emerged as surprise contender for the managers job at Morecambe.
The Shrimps are currently looking for a replacement after Jim Bentley left them last week for National League side AFC Fylde.
Barry Roche and Kevin Ellison are currently in caretaker charge and won their first game on Saturday against Leyton Orient.
McDermott has come in at joint-second favourite for the job according to SkyBet at 4/1.
The last club he was manager at was Reading and he has been out of the dug out since May 2016.
He joined the Royals as chief scout in 2000 before becoming their manager ten years later. He guided them to Premier League promotion in 2012.
A year later, he left and then went on to managed Leeds United, but after a 15th place finish, he departed.
In October 2014, McDermott joined Arsenal as chief scout until 2015 when he took the Reading manager’s job but got sacked six months later.
In his playing career, he made appearances for Arsenal, Oxford United, Cardiff City and Yeovil Town before starting his coaching career in non league with Slough Town and Woking.
