An ex-Pompey, Hibs, Sunderland, Sheff Utd, Coventry and Reading striker has been arrested by police, according to reports in the last 24 hours.
The footballer was taken into custody by Scottish cops probing allegations of match fixing in football.
28 year old Marc McNulty, and another man aged 21 were quizzed as homes in Edinburgh and Forth Valley were searched as part of an ongoing investigation.
It involves bets made on yellow cards being handed to players among other claims.
Computer equipment is also understood to have been taken away for analysis.
A Police Scotland statement said: ‘Police Scotland is investigating reported incidents relating to gambling in sport.
‘As part of the ongoing inquiry officers searched a number of properties in the Edinburgh and Forth Valley areas on Wednesday, September 23.
‘Two men, aged 21 and 28, have been arrested and released pending further inquiries.’
A man who identified himself as McNulty’s dad at an address in Edinburgh told The Scottish Sun on Sunday: “He’s not here.
“It’s news to me. It’s nothing to do with me.”
The 21-year-old quizzed by cops is from Bo’ness, West Lothian.
Speaking at the man’s home, his dad said: “I can’t say a thing.”
The SFA revealed they were aware of the allegations but a spokesman said they were unable to comment.
Reading were contacted for comment.

He had two loan spells at Hibernian, where he won his two Scotland caps in 2019.

Marc McNulty and Michael McIndoe, I reckon we should stop buying Scots with two Ms in their initials.
They turn out to be wrong ‘uns (allegedly).

The only match fixing Marc McNulty ever did was by scoring too many goals #freemarcmnulty

Marc Mcnulty, how much did you have on for “player to miss a penalty” vs Leeds in 2018? #Readingfc

Just a little question of ‘innocent before proven guilty’! His contract will probably have run down by the time it all works through due process. Believe it or not he still probably had some financial value now lost! #readingfc

Knew there was something going on nobody can actually be that bad at football
— George Banning (@GeorgeBanning_) September 26, 2020
If he’s guilty that’s a breach of contract. No need to give him a pay off.
— Richard H (@ProbablyADick) September 26, 2020
Was his bet to score no goals?
— Ben (@bjturrner) September 26, 2020
Wow. As if he hadn’t tried hard enough to finish his career already over the last 2 years.

Better than announcing Riquelme. Significant amount gone on the wage bill. Now need to find a way to arrest Aluko. Nigerian Scammer maybe?
