Ex-Newcastle and Tottenham player Nabil Bentaleb rushed to hospital with ‘serious illness’

Ex-Newcastle and Tottenham player Nabil Bentaleb has been rushed to hospital with a ‘serious illness’, his club have confirmed.

A number of fan groups have sent their thoughts and prayers, adding that Bentaleb had a suspected heart attack, although this is unconfirmed with Lille not specifying the reason.

His current and former teammates have also taken to send messages of support via social media after news broke on Wednesday night (19 June).

Tottenham also tweeted: “We’re sending you all our love and best wishes, Nabil. Everyone at the Club is with you 🤍”

Lille said in a statement: “LOSC informs that Nabil Bentaleb suffered from illness on the evening of Tuesday June 18.

“The player was immediately taken into care and sent to Lille University Hospital for hospitalisation.

“LOSC accompanies Nabil as closely as possible during this ordeal and gives him all its support. The Club also calls for greater respect for the private life of its player.”

A message from ex-Man Utd player Angel Gomes read: “Wishing you all the health and courage bro.”

Lille’s Remy Cabella wrote on his Instagram story: “My Nabil, be the strongest at this moment, all our thoughts are with you. Pray very very hard for Nabil. We love you.”

Bentaleb’s Lille and Algeria teammate Adam Ounas: “A lot of Courage to my brother, make a lot of duaa for @nabilbentaleb42 Allah and Chafik my brother we are together you will come back stronger inchallah.”

Another of Bentaleb’s international teammates Badredine Bouanani said: “Big thoughts to you my brother Nabil, may Allah grant you a quick recovery and may we benefit from your joy and your presence among us.”

The Algerian football federation also issued their own statement. It read: “The Algerian Football Federation wishes international player Nabil Bentaleb a speedy recovery after the health problem he suffered.”

Ligue 1 added: “We are with you all the way, Nabil. Get well soon, warrior!”
