Every Premier League Club’s Most Overrated Player in the 2019/20 season

We have decided to take a look Every Premier League Club’s Most Overrated Player in the 2019/20 season according to 90min, and it’s certainly got fans talking.

There are plenty of supporters guilty of over-hyping one of their own team’s footballers or of another team. Find out who is listed for each one below…

BOURNEMOUTH

90min have stated that Nathan Ake is the most overrated player for AFC Bournemouth. They say “there is an obsession to Ake in him being linked with big clubs every single transfer window – the reasoning why is unclear, however. Got a hairstyle famed for how quick he is on FIFA, never looked like a £40m centre-back, especially being part of a team that’s conceded 198 league goals across the last three full seasons.

ARSENAL

90min have stated that Mesut Özil is the most overrated player for Arsenal. They add “he’s not nearly as good as his reputation would suggest but on his day, he can be the best midfielder in the world. Has top class vision for a pass but only shown that form about five times since moving to Arsenal.”

ASTON VILLA

90min have stated that Tyrone Mings is the most overrated player for Aston Villa. Claiming “whilst he looked great in the Championship, he’s struggled with that form in top flight, making only seven tackles this season. Earned himself an England call-up but has since flopped. If he was as good as many thought, Villa probably wouldn’t be in a relegation battle with the most goals conceded in the division.”

BRIGHTON

90min have stated that Lewis Dunk is the most overrated player for Brighton & Hove Albion. They say “even though he’s not a bad footballer, the player worth £50m is definitely overrated as Lucas Moura, Steven Alzate, Pablo Fornals have completed more tackles this season, whilst Cesar Azpilicueta, Kenny McLean, Lucas Digne have won more aerial duels this season.

BURNLEY

90min have stated that Nick Pope is the most overrated player for Burnley. They suggested that he had a fantastic 2017/18 campaign, but hasn’t been the same since he suffered a dislocated shoulder. He touted many a time as a soon-to-be England number one, but has a very poor save percentage, possibly due to the most determined defence in the entire division. Chelsea interested? Don’t think so.

CHELSEA

90min have stated that Callum Hudson-Odoi is the most overrated player for Chelsea, that “he is one of those to have been hit by the curse of being young and English. Built up to be superstars before showing anything at top level, was tied down to a huge new contract to fend off interest from Bayern Munich. His potential is clear and can go on to become an England star, but he’s not there yet.”

CRYSTAL PALACE

90min have stated that Wilfried Zaha is the most overrated player for Crystal Palace. They said “he’s the Eagles’ only real goal threat, gets millions of chances, dribbles with excitement, but his return in front of goal disappoints. Valued at over £80m – but ranks 44th for key passes in the Premier League and boasts just three goals and three assists in 2019/20.”

EVERTON

90min have stated that Jordan Pickford is the most overrated player for Everton. He “was promising as a youngster with Sunderland, but still at that level now at 25 years old. To be the number one England keeper, he’s suppose to be a near-elite talent capable of winning trophies, yet decision making and general abilities let him down. In the last season and a half, he has committed six errors leading to goals.”

LEICESTER CITY

90min have stated that Kelechi Iheanacho is the most overrated player for Leicester City. They say “he was the future of African football, then the future of Man City, then the future of Leicester in 2017, however now he looks the future of mid-table side at best. Should be fitting into this young and exciting Foxes team, but looks an average backup to Jamie Vardy. Is he really worth £25m?”

LIVERPOOL

90min have stated that Trent Alexander-Arnold is the most overrated player for Liverpool. Whilst telling readers to calm down, they add “he’s an outstanding footballer, but isn’t as good at right-back defensively, average at best. He’s best at crossing, running and passing the ball. ‘The best right-back in the world’ a stretch.”

MANCHESTER CITY

90min have stated that Rodri is the most overrated player for Manchester City. For him, the said: the record-signing has been the weak link in midfield, making for a lacklustre and vulnerable City side. Rodri should prevent that, however looks more like a temporary fix to Fernandinho being out.

MANCHESTER UNITED

90min have stated that Harry Maguire is the most overrated player for Manchester United. They claim that “if he didn’t score against Sweden in the World Cup semi-final, he’d probably still be a Leicester player. His attacking free kicks convinced fans that he was the world’s best centre-back, however he really isn’t worth the £80m spend. He’s absolutely fine, that’s all.”

NEWCASTLE UNITED

90min have stated that Sean Longstaff is the most overrated player for Newcastle United. For him, they say “whilst the young midfielder looks good in his breakthrough season, Manchester United ruined his entire career by wanting to sign him £50m. Described as a future star, but he just looks so average and isn’t the club’s best midfielder and not the best talent in the Longstaff family either.”

NORWICH CITY

90min have stated that Teemu Pukki is the most overrated player for Norwich City. He has been described as “very average, convinced the world he was Pelé reincarnated with five weeks of goalscoring, but isn’t the prolific star he’s fooled everyone into thinking. A decent striker, can score enough goals but won’t win the golden boot.”

SHEFFIELD UNITED

90min have stated that Lys Mousset is the most overrated player for Sheffield United. “Joined from Bournemouth back in 2016, and looked to be an enigmatic youngster with high potential. He disappointed, the Blades gave him a second chance, and after some good performances, it’s as if he taking the top flight by storm when really, he rarely starts and doesn’t contribute much.”

SOUTHAMPTON

90min have stated that James Ward-Prowse is the most overrated player for Southampton. They said for him, “that every now and again he scores free-kick and Twitter users demand that he’s called up for England, though for the majority of the time, he’s a frustrating player and at 25, he is no longer the ‘prospect’ he was once dubbed. He’s also third overall for most fouls committed this season.”

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

90min have stated that Dele Alli is the most overrated player for Tottenham Hotspur. The said “he is another who was electric as a youngster but he still thrives on real goal threat he built when he was 20. However after a decent season or two with Spurs, he’s now become more like a liability, someone who lacks substantial impact in the final third.”

WATFORD

90min have stated that Abdoulaye Doucouré is the most overrated player for Watford. “All he does is talk about his desire to play in the Champions League for a top side, but really he isn’t to that standard just yet. Is a capable midfield enforcer with strong technical ability, but is more a big fish in a small pond. Impressive at times, but just calm it with the UCL talks.”

WEST HAM UNITED

90min have stated that Felipe Anderson is the most overrated player for West Ham United. They said “once he signed in 2018, he was seen as a real coup, seen as a breakout waiting to happen with a number of top sides were interested, but he’s failed to transform the Hammers into European contenders. Fails to live up to the real reputation as an electric winger.”

WOLVES

90min have stated that Diogo Jota is the most overrated player for Wolverhampton Wanderers. They add that “he was part of the prominent strike force with Raúl Jiménez last season, though this year he’s no longer a core part of the side, but can say he was one of the those who made Wolves great again. Jota’s a solid rotation piece, capable of making an impact every now and then.”
