Everton working with police as they condemn “threatening” abuse sent to Calvert-Lewin’s wife

Everton say they are working with police as they condemn “threatening” abuse sent to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s wife on social media.

They also said it was racist and misogynistic abuse directed, calling it criminal and against the club’s values.

They have a zero-tolerance policy for such behaviour and are working with Merseyside Police and the Premier League to identify and hold the perpetrators accountable.

The club urges reporting of such abuse and will continue supporting Calvert-Lewin and his family.

The club said in a statement: “Everton Football Club strongly condemns the threatening, racist and misogynistic abuse directed towards the wife of Dominic Calvert-Lewin on social media.

“This sinister and intimidating behaviour is not only deeply hurtful and distressing, it is also criminal – and does not represent the values of Everton or the overwhelming majority of our supporters.

“The Club has a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of discriminatory and abusive behaviour. We are working closely with Merseyside Police and the Premier League to ensure the individuals responsible are identified and held accountable for their actions.

“Threats or abuse of any kind – whether online or in person – are completely unacceptable and have no place in our game or in society. The Club urges anyone who sees or experiences such behaviour to report it to the authorities and relevant social media platforms immediately.

“We will continue to offer our full support to Dominic and his family.”

Sandra Calvert-Lewin was sent online abuse after posting a message in support of her husband, who played his final game at Goodison Park in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Southampton.

After Everton’s final game at Goodison Park before relocating to their new Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season, Sandra Calvert-Lewin posted on Instagram: “30 goals at Goodison. Top 3 ever. They might not shout it – but we’re proud every single day.”

In response, Merseyside Police said: “We are aware of racist and threatening social media comments directed towards the wife of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

“To send such abhorrent messages to anyone online is utterly appalling and we are working with Everton Football Club as part of our initial enquiries.

“We take these reports extremely seriously and would like to remind social media users that any belief that they can maintain anonymity online to commit offences is misplaced.

“Offences committed online, which includes making threats and racist abuse, can be investigated.”

The model shares the online abusive that she has received with her Instagram followers

Sandra, who gave birth to her and Dom’s first child in August 2023, has said she had received a series of abusive messages from Everton supporters, including some threatening to kill her and her baby. Sandra then called out the messages directly and added she was reporting them to the authorities.

In one of her messages, Sandra said: ‘I can take it — but the number of footballers’ wives I know who won’t even leave the house because of people like this is honestly heartbreaking.’

Sandra thanked those who supported her, saying: ‘To the real Evertonians – thank you so much. We love you! Every nasty, abusive comment from internet trolls will be forwarded to the police and the club.’

She also took a moment to thank those Everton fans who had shown their support for her

Kick It Out have said: “The level of abuse targeting players’ wives and loved ones this season has been disgusting.

“Time and again, women connected to players are treated as acceptable targets, from sexually degrading chants in stadiums to vile comments online.

“This isn’t banter. It’s misogyny, and it has real, lasting impact. Good to see Everton stand firmly against this and it’s important that action now follows.”

Twitter users reacted as Everton say they’re working with police while they also condemn “threatening” abuse sent to Calvert-Lewin’s wife…

@NXMproperty: Every club has them unfortunately

@tentosevenfour1: Absolutely abhorrent is any abuse directed at anyone from what I’ll loosely call people from behind their keyboards, never mind directed at a lad and his wife and family whom has been a true class act since he arrived at our club. God Bless Dom, his wife and family 💙

@efcjay86: Totally agree with all of that. However, it’s time for Dom to move on and let his wife find a club they will both be happy with and not feel the need to use social media as a yardstick to have ago at fans or the club

@Scotteehee: If she tweeted something decent instead of having a pop of the fanbase, none of this would of happened- attention seeking

@Blue_Cav: Wishing Dom and partner well. Hope when culprits are found they are banned from all football grounds.

@ToffeeCardinal: Dom himself came out about his struggles with his mental health and a lot of our fan base still continued to abuse him. Now we have this. No wonder we can’t have nice things.

@Gazala2: Well said! Why do some fans think this is OK, it’s out of order. We’re better than that. Full support to Sandra and Dom 💙💙

@Nirosta: Anyone who abuses players or their families, and those who support their abuse, should get their ST revoked and a lifetime ban from all matches.

@CookiesComment: Whoever is responsible should be ashamed. I’m embarrassed to think that any @Everton supporter would be responsible. #EFC

@Alternativepu10: Urgh this is embarrassing and ridiculous that it even needs saying. Unfortunately our fanbase and many others still have a minority who embarrass the club with these pathetic attitudes. You can be a fan and passionate about your club without resorting to vile abuse 🤦‍♂️😡

@Carter_toffee: Our fan base are very sensitive aren’t they 🤷🏻‍♂️😂 A young girl defending her partner but grown men who give it out constantly on here have took offence.

@AnthonyM91: Honestly we have some fucking idiots that support this club. And if you’re one of them who has done it, you’re not welcome at Everton fc.
