CLUB STATEMENT:
Everton and hummel have launched a limited edition shirt to champion equality in football and to raise funds to support the Club and Everton in the Community’s award-winning inclusion work.
The shirt, which is on sale now online at evertondirect.com and in store at Everton One and Everton Two from Friday 29 September, is a celebration of hummel’s 100-year commitment to raising awareness of social issues and inspiring change through sport.
The initiative has seen the Danish brand, which was established in 1923, create limited edition ‘Equality Jerseys’ for seven of its clubs across Europe. The design is inspired by the iconic Denmark ’86 shirt, a template that has also been prominently featured across many of hummel’s kits for 2023/24, including the Everton third strip revealed last month.
To launch the equality shirt, players from across Everton’s men’s, women’s, Under-21s and amputee football teams took part in a photoshoot, alongside supporters representing the diversity of the Blues’ fanbase.
A donation from each shirt sold will help Everton in the Community continue to deliver vital projects and education sessions in areas including disability, youth engagement, social isolation, as well as celebrating cultural diversity and the LGBT+ community.
As part of the initiative, and to highlight the work of Everton’s All Together Now campaign, a mini-series of the Club and hummel’s My Everton feature, telling the stories of fans involved in the photoshoot, will run across Club online and social media platforms throughout the coming weeks.
Allan Vad Nielsen, CEO of hummel, said: “This jersey is more than just a piece of sportswear; it’s a symbol of our enduring commitment to equality and unity. Equality is a cornerstone of our brand’s ethos, and we are immensely proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with seven of our prominent football clubs to promote this important agenda.
“In the world of sports, we’re all equal, regardless of our backgrounds, gender, or beliefs. It is not only acceptable but also commendable to embrace our differences and be true to ourselves. Through our equality jersey, we aim to unite coaches, players, and fans from different clubs, spotlighting this essential value and sparking positive change in our sports community and beyond.”
Richard Kenyon, Everton’s Chief Commercial and Communications Officer, said: “We are proud to support this campaign and to help hummel celebrate 100 years of their brand and what is very much a shared value of championing equality and inclusion across our game and wider society.
“We want this shirt to raise awareness of all aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion and to celebrate that our sport is for everyone. We also intend to highlight the work we are doing to ensure anyone engaging with Everton or Everton in the Community feels respected, celebrated, empowered for who they are, and that they belong.”
With only a limited number of shirts available, stocks of the hummel and Everton equality shirt are expected to sell fast. Order online at evertondirect.com today or buy in store at Everton One or Everton Two from Friday 29 September.
