Everton fans slam Anthony Gordon’s post match celebrations after beating his boyhood club

Everton fans slam Anthony Gordon’s post match celebrations after he played in his Newcastle United side in beating his boyhood club.

It seems the 22 year has riled up Toffees supporters again, this time by pumping his fists in the tunnel at Goodison Park.

The Magpies beat Everton 4-1 on Thursday, boosting their hopes for a Champions League place and putting them in huge danger of going down from the Premier League.

Gordon left Everton in January for Newcastle for a £40m deal. Eddie Howe warned Gordon before the game to be aware of the reaction when he returned to his boyhood team.

Gordon has previously expressed his disappointment that Everton did not thank him for his services after he left the club.

The Merseyside outfit will no doubt felt resentful that Gordon skipped training in order to get a transfer away from the club.

Gordon came on in the 87th minute in midweek, celebrated the win by pumping his fists and took centre stage in a photo of the Magpies’ changing rooms with the photo uploaded to Twitter.

With five games left, the defeat places Everton in 19th place on the Premier League table. They are two points away from safety.

In their next match, they take on struggling Leicester, followed by a visit to Brighton a week later.

Eddie Howe said of the player prior to the game: “I don’t want it to become a big talking point in the game. For me, [Gordon’s return] is not important.

“It’s important for Anthony and it’s important that he comes through the game in a good way.

“It is important that the team functions and we show our best selves.

“It’s very difficult for me to comment on how he left [Everton] because I’m not party to what happened and what went on,” the former Bournemouth boss said.

“I can only really comment on the player that I’ve seen and he’s been very, very good, trained really well, as I’ve said many times, very passionate, wants to achieve, wants to do really well in his career.

“I’ll speak to him on a one-to-one level, of course,” he said. “That wouldn’t be abnormal in preparation for any game.

‘It’s me trying to pick the best team to win the game, whether than includes Anthony or not. It’s not about Anthony having to prove anything to Everton – that would be the wrong way of looking at it.

“I have to pick a team that I think has the best tools to hurt them. I will always take the emotion out of the decision, you can never pick a team based on one player of what it might do for them.”

As mentioned, Everton fans took to slam Anthony Gordon’s post match celebrations after beating his boyhood club, while fans of others clubs had a different opinion…

@absolutepaul: he would of still been with yous if you hadn’t hounded him out of your club. Your whole fan base is an embarrassment.

@utft_lb: The fact that he’s deliberately doing this to wind our fans up aswell right infront of the camera. He literally came on for 5 minutes and did fuck all. Acting like he’s a big part of the team

@___1892___: I mean after he was chased down in his car who can blame him?

@ciarannufc_: Gordon front and centre. Byootiful

@El_Cunto76: Yous chased him out the club man. Blocked the road so he couldn’t escape, circled his car with your pitch forks and torches and told him to get out your club! Then u cry on when he does as he’s ordered! Make your minds up, did yous want him to stay or go 🤷🏻‍♂️

@fionn_cfc: Don’t support Everton but he makes my blood boil

@UpTheT00N: Sums them up doesn’t it… you chased his car down a road, barricaded him in and demanded he left the club 😂

@danny1878c: Another nail in his boyhood clubs coffin and the lad just can’t hide his delight, lacks any type of class and has zero respect for everton, he’s a disgrace, karma is coming for you @anthonygordon keep looking over your shoulder

@N17_Edd: The disrespect what a cnut

@bluetoffee9: And what involvement did he have in that win for them. There’s something not right with him.

@Si_EFC: Acting like that after playing practically zero part in the result. He’s one insecure little try hard weirdo him yanno

@RodneyMcCain: I’m not even an Evertonian, but Gordon really is a unlikable little runt, isn’t he? 😳 Surely he can understand why Toffees fans have issues with the way he “jumped ship” & then claimed the fans didn’t appreciate him: appreciate him for WHAT, exactly?! 🙄

@Cosseycj: How you treat the lad was a disgrace, you hounded him out the club, like you do with every manager. Maybe the problem isn’t Gordon, maybe it’s you the fans

@ando71429870: The abuse he received he got death threats chased down the street and told to get out the club he did what yous asked aswell as getting you 40m to help out your finances that seem to be a mess

@chrisro46517353: Can’t blame the lad for wanting to better himself.

@Diamond8618: You brought it on yourselves when you hounded him down the road.. You cannot have any complaints.

@KirkbyPR: If Everton would of won would you of been happy if he was celebrating? How would Newcastle fans feel? Young lad celebrating his employers winning who pay him millions per year, he gone from potential championship football to champions league football no wonder he’s buzzing!

@deb16mills: Knows there are cameras in the tunnel too 🐀🐀🐀

@cdog10ncfc: Massive 3 points for him and his sides push for top 4. He’s been given heaps of abuse from Everton fans so the feeling towards them probably quite numb. Professional reaction from him

@MarkFCHT: Loyalty in football, that left the game many years ago, fans go on about how good the Premier League is, but it brought greed by clubs and players alike. How many other players from Everton would have stop over joining Newcastle!
