Wolverhampton Wanderers are back in Europe for the first time after almost 40 years, since the 1980–81 UEFA Cup where they were knocked out in the first round by PSV, and today they have found out their opponents in the latest Europa League draw.
Wolves come in at the Second Qualifying Round and it has been confirmed that they will face the winners of Crusaders (NIR) with Nuno’s men playing the first leg on the 25th of July, and the second leg on the 1st of August 2019.
The Premier League side were seeded for this afternoon’s Third Qualifying Round with opponents Crusaders, Legia Warszawa (POL) / KuPS (FIN), Gent (BEL) / Viitorul (ROU), Midtjylland (DEN) and AZ Alkmaar (NED) / Häcken (SWE) – those unseeded were AEK Larnaca (CYP) / Levski Sofia (BUL), Pyunik (ARM) / Jablonec (CZE), Dunajská Streda (SVK) / Atromitos (GRE), Rangers (SCO) / Progrès Niederkorn (LUX) and Mariupol (UKR).
Of course, Wolves fans pinned their hopes on getting Rangers should they both get through.
It was eventually confirmed that the winners of Wolves’ tie will take on Pyunik (ARM) / Jablonec (CZE) in the Third Qualifying Round.
Right, so I'm not going to pretend I have a wealth of knowledge about either Pyunik or Jablonec, but the former finished 2nd in the Armenian top flight last term and the latter 4th in the Czech top tier. #wwfc
