England fans taunt Wales and Scotland with cheeky chants during World Cup clash

England fans taunt Wales and Scotland with cheeky chants during Tuesday night’s World Cup clash at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Doha.

Going into the game, Wales knew they needed to qualify with a win by four goals or more or beat Gareth Southgate’s men and hope Iran and the USA play out a draw in the other Group B match.

The chances of Wales pulling it off were slim after England took possession in the first half of the match in Qatar.

Unsurprisingly, the travelling Three Lions supporters chanted “you’re going back home in the morning” at their rivals and then saw second-half play out even worse for Wales, when Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford scored in the 50th and 52nd minute.

As England celebrated their progress to the next round of the tournament, they were able to mock both Wales and Scotland.

“Are you in Scotland in disguise?”, “3-0, in your cup final” and “Wales get battered, everywhere they go” they sang.

When Rashford netted his second of the game to seal a 3-0 win, which saw England move to within four goals of their record 12 scored at the 2018 World Cup.

It also happened to be the 100th World Cup goal in England’s history.

Man of the Match: Marcus Rashford

England boss Gareth Southgate to the BBC: “I thought in the first half we really controlled the game, but we didn’t create many clear-cut chances. So we wanted a little bit more thrust and threat in the final third and to play forward a bit quicker.

“In the second half, once we got the two goals, we knew their spirit had probably gone, it’s been a tough tournament for them. I thought we kept our discipline and quality right to the end.

“It’s great for Marcus Rashford, he has trained really well. I have to say, he’s really been impressive since he came back in with us. He could have had a hat-trick couldn’t he? And the free kick is what he’s capable of, it’s an incredible strike really.

“In moments I thought both Foden and Rash were quiet in the first half, we decided to switch wings, and I thought that might allow them to go on the outside and also the chance to come in and they responded really well, so for both to get the goals is great.”

Wales boss Rob Page to the BBC: “It’s very tough to take. In the first half we were outstanding, the effort the players put in off the ball was exceptional. We could have been a little bit better on the ball, but I won’t say a bad word about those players, they have given everything today.

“I don’t want to talk about negatives, the boys put a shift in. we’re disappointed to leave the tournament but if we’re going to go out, that’s the way to go out, our first-half performance was excellent.

“Five minutes before half-time [Gareth Bale] felt his hamstring. Joe Allen threw everything at it in his first 90 minutes in ages. Ben Davies had to come off with an injury. It was a massive effort from all the group. To get here is a massive achievement. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Jude Bellingham believes England showed a little more of their best side on Tuesday, as they beat Wales by 3-0 to top World Cup Group B.

“What you saw in the first game was a really good attacking display, the second game we defended our box really well, and today you got a mix of both,” said the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

“We’re really happy, that was the aim coming into this game, to tie them both up, and we did. It was a good performance from us.

“We had our high energy today, we realised in the game the other day we probably weren’t aggressive enough and we were a little too passive so it was important to be more on the front foot.

“Hendo [Jordan Henderson] brings that intensity every time he plays, when he gives you that confidence, I can push on and Dec [Rice] can be aggressive. We won a lot of balls high up the pitch was key to us retaining the pressure and keeping them under.”

“I’m so happy for him [Rashford], what a performance,” added Bellingham.

“He was brilliant. When he gets the ball and he’s got that freedom to take people on, his end product is so good as well.

“The free kick, in a game like this where there’s big pressure on a free kick like that, and the way he’s delivered it is brilliant.

“We’ve got loads of depth in those attacking areas, whoever comes on always seems to make an impact. Whether it’s from the start or from the bench, the change of personnel doesn’t really affect the style or the performance of the team which is quite rare.”

Marcus Rashford stressed the best is still to come from England despite an impressive win on Tuesday night and stated moments like his two goals against Wales is why he plays football.

Rashford said: “Moments like this, this is what I play football for: the biggest moments, the best moments.

“I’m really happy today, I’m happy we’re going through to the next round and hopefully we can build on this performance as I have massive ambitions for this team and I think we can play even better.”

“It’s obviously a great feeling. We were a bit disappointed as a team after the last game against the USA, I thought we could have played a lot better and the only way to bounce back from that is to have a good performance in your next game and I thought we did that.

“First half we defended brilliantly, didn’t give them any opportunities and it was just about us killing the game off and taking the chances when they came.”

He continued: “At half time, the manager said we’re playing well but the one thing we can work better on is shots on goal. We only had two or three in the first half, we wanted to work the keeper more, keep getting in dangerous positions and second half we made them count.”

Rashford’s opening goal against Wales was a wonderful free-kick and the forward said: “I fancied one in the first half but the one in the second half was in a better position. From there, it’s just about being calm and trying to execute what you practice in training. They don’t go in often but I’m pleased that it went in today.”

@CairtersSMFC: If we started collecting rent from all their heads, we could fund luxury yachts for all those people crossing the channel.

@Fraser__F1: Why is the diddy B league team speaking about us
