In this article, we check out the EFL Championship Outright Title Winner, Promotion and Relegation odds for the 2025/26 season.
And just like that, we have reached the second international break of the season, the transfer window has closed, the league is taking shape at this very early stage, and we’re still getting an idea of the starting line-up, areas of the squad that needs strengthening.
On an episode of the Essential EFL, Simeon Gholam, Gary Weaver and Tommy Smith discussed the first part of a thrilling season so far.
The panel take a look at Frank Lampard’s scintillating Coventry side going top of the table. They also discuss the top six shakeup, manager movements at Watford, the fallout of the abandonment of Blackburn vs Ipswich and a potential change to the playoff format.
There was praise for the Sky Blues’ impressive goal-scoring record, driven by players like Haji Wright and Victor Torp, and a strong squad continuity.
The also touched on Middlesbrough holding second despite a recent loss, and QPR’s remarkable recovery after a heavy defeat to Coventry.
Other topics included managerial changes at Watford, who have just sacked head coach Paulo Pezzolano after just 10 games in charge of the Championship club and replaced him with former boss Javi Gracia.
Pezzolano was appointed in May following Watford’s decision to sack Tom Cleverley, making him the club’s 12th boss since Gracia’s first spell ended in 2019.
The abandonment of the Blackburn vs Ipswich match was also discussed, abandoned after 80 minutes on Saturday September 20th due to the weather, will be replayed in full at Ewood Park on Tuesday December 2nd, kick-off 7.45pm.
Attention turned to potential changes to the playoff format, possibility expanding the Championship play-offs to include those clubs who finish seventh and eighth in the division – and there is widespread support for the idea among club bosses.
Guest Tommy Smith shared insights on his post-playing career, speaking on the challenge of transitioning from professional football while maintaining a routine by attending EFL games.
