Eddie Howe is reportedly holding out for the Celtic manager’s job as he turns down not one but TWO Premier League offers according to reports.
The Scottish Premiership club are said to have made contact with the ex-Bournemouth manager, with the update emerging from one of Scottish football’s major outlets.
it comes hours after reports claimed Howe was set to do his homework on the Celtic position after talks with the Hoops hierarchy.
However now, The Daily Record are reporting in their own exclusive that Howe’s preferred destination is Celtic, having turned down two English Premier League offers recently.
A ‘high-placed source’ close to the Celtic negotiations told the paper: “Eddie is extremely keen on Celtic and claims that he only wants a job in England couldn’t be further from the truth.
“He has already turned down two job offers in the English Premier League, including Sheffield United only this week. The location doesn’t matter – what is important is that the club is the right fit for Eddie and Eddie is the right for the club.
“Eddie isn’t the type of guy to take on any job. He has to know that the structure is right and everything is in place for him to succeed.”
The paper say that more discussions are due to take place over the next few days, with negotiations set to be stepped up between club and prospective employee.
Howe is now the leading contender to become Neil Lennon’s permanent successor, knocking back Roy Kenae and John Kennedy in the bookies odd, and Parkhead is the Englishman’s preferred destination.
It’s believed his representatives have been in talks with those at the top of Celtic over the odds-on move and those discussions are expected to be stepped up in the coming days.
Sheffield United owner Prince Abdullah identified Eddie Howe as the man he wanted to replace Chris Wilder following his track record at Bournemouth.
Howe’s former assistant Jason Tindall succeeded Howe as Bournemouth gaffer and is currently the Yorkshire club’s No. 2 to interim boss and former Hibernian manager Paul Heckingbottom but he doesn’t feel it’s the right job for him as they prepare for life in the Championship next season.
Howe’s two spells in charge of the Cherries sandwiched a short, unsuccessful spell at Burnley but he was linked with the England and Arsenal jobs during the height of his success at Dean Court.
Howe has been linked with plenty of top jobs but has only been offered two gigs including Sheffield United and another with a manager currently at the helm (possibly Crystal Palace, with Roy Hodgson’s contract up this summer) – but not Newcastle United with Steve Bruce expected to stay for now.
