Ebbsfleet boss slams ‘most embarrassing red card’ he’s ever seen as FA reject appeal

Ebbsfleet United boss Dennis Kutrieb slams what he described to be ‘most embarrassing red card’ he’s ever seen as the FA reject the appeal.

The off-the-ball incident took place on the 64th minute of Saturday’s National League meeting between AFC Fylde and Ebbsfleet.

Ebbsfleet tweeted at the time: “The Fleet are down to 10 men as Ouss Cisse has been shown a red card [by Referee David Richardson]. Some suggestions in the press area that the referee has had a case of mistaken identity. White and Kay tangled on the ground but both got to their feet and Cissé mystified as to why he received red when Kay went to ground again. One to view again on the video for sure!”

AFC Fylde said in a tweet: “Ouss Cisse is shown a red card after an off-the-ball incident.” Then choice to not show the incident on their highlights.

Yet it was captured on National League TV, while Ebbsfleet made sure that it was going to be shown in their highlights video they posted on their channel.

AFC Fylde said in their match report: “On the hour, Poleon sent a rising header over Richardson’s crossbar as Dennis Kutrieb’s men aimed to restore their advantage before the game was turned on its head minutes later when Cisse was sent off following an off-the-ball incident.”

Ebbsfleet said in their match report: “It was a bad five minutes for the Fleet as they lost Cissé to a somewhat convoluted red card. White and Kay went to ground in a challenge and as the Fleet defender sprang to his feet, Kay dramatically hit the deck again as Cissé moved in to act as peacemaker but didn’t appear to make any significant contact. Indeed the midfielder seemed so surprised by his dismissal that it took several minutes for it to become apparent which player had actually been dismissed.”

Ouss Cisse has already served one of his three-match ban with Dennis Kutrieb unhappy that the Football Association went against overturning the appeal.

Ebbsfleet boss Dennis Kutrieb said after the game against AFC Fylde: “I have to watch it back, um I just say, I would be very surprised if it doesn’t get turned down, because I can’t imagine, I just can’t imagine without seeing the picture, can’t imagine that Cisse pushed someone his face or whatever, because he’s just not the person, so I would be very surprised if this red card was okay, I think they just lost the pictures the referees, it’s clearly a dive from the first instance, a clear dive, everyone could see it, it needs to be a booking for the opponent not for our player, it was not the player initially it was the player who came in to just separate the group, so as I said I need to watch it back but I would be very surprised if this was a red card

Interviewer: So that’s what Cisse said, he was kind of coming in to separate the players as opposed to get involved in the incidents

DK: Yeah and as I said I know more players and I know like OK he might be in trouble because he’s a hot head or whatever, as I said I would be very surprised if Cisse has done something where he deserved the red card and yeah but we have to take it.

Days on from finding out about their appeal, Kutrieb said, as per KentOnline: “We didn’t win the appeal because the footage was not clear and obvious.

“For me, it was clear and obvious but that’s the world we are in at the moment.

“I’m struggling to accept it and I think our club is struggling to accept it. Our fans should struggle to accept it and our players should struggle to accept it.

“I think it’s the most embarrassing red card I’ve ever seen.

“The only thing you can do about it is to work harder and if you have the feeling something is not fair, and it’s obvious to see in the footage that it’s not a red card, then you need to make sure that you get the luck on your side.

“All the things that are going against us we need to turn around and we can do that by working harder as a team and that’s what we will do.”

This is how Twitter users reacted as the Ebbsfleet boss slams the ‘most embarrassing red card’ he’s ever seen as FA reject the appeal…

@TJudgee_: Refs had a shocker there

@AndrewR15596567: Number 8 grabbed Josh Kay by the throat and pushed him to the ground, no need to get involved, the rest was handbags.

Stuart Churcher: Looks like he got shot by a sniper

Ian Wonnacott: The Fylde player just drops to the floor 👀

Graham Newman: Ian Wonnacott defo a bit of theatrical antics there for the red card. Ref was well conned

Nick Petken: Did we only release these highlights because Fylde didn’t put the ridiculous red card in theirs? Love it
