It was a very dramatic end with 3 goals in final 5 MINUTES as Wycombe beat Rotherham to go second in the League One table.
After a relatively quiet first 65 minutes, all five goals came in the second half, with the decisive drama unfolding in stoppage time.
Rotherham took the lead in the 66th minute through Louie Sibley, only for Wycombe’s Richard Kone to level three minutes later with a powerful header.
The match then turned wild in injury time: Sonny Bradley headed Wycombe in front in the 90th minute, followed by Gideon Kodua sealing the win in the 92nd minute with an assist from Kone.
Rotherham managed a late consolation penalty from Jonson Clarke-Harris in the 95th minute, but it wasn’t enough.
This result propelled Wycombe to second place in League One, jumping above Wrexham, who the Chairboys are on with same points with (71 points from 37 games), making it a very interesting battle for automatic promotion.
Rotherham boss Steve Evans said, per Yorkshire Post: “I think it is a frustrating one. It is a simple cross (for Wycombe’s second goal) and Dillon gets blocked and the boys at Wycombe play for that type of routine, but Dillon should do better with that.
“I have got no complaints with the third goal. We were chasing to get back in the game and had four or five up front and Wycombe take advantage of that.
“I have always said Wycombe are a good side, a good club with a great coach and I wish them every success. There’s one or two players who I know personally and they know they have turned up with a balaclava today to take the points. That’s how we feel.
“In the second half, we were only subjected to the odd counter-attack. When their boy scored with the header to equalise, I think it was only the second or third time that they got in our box.
“The rest of it was us trying to get the goal and we got the goal (first) and Mallik (Wilks) hit the post before that and should score.
“We were sloppy at times and should have done better, but there was a real hunger and energy to win the ball back. They are always going to be a threat, hence why they are where they are in the league and are a decent side.”
🗣️ “The referee gives the goal and then the fourth official from 60 yards away said it’s clear handball… that’s the killer one”

Wycombe’s Mike Dodds said, per Bucks Free Press: “Every three points between now and the end of the season is going to be important.
“Come the end of the season it will read 3-2 to Wycombe and that is what people will remember.
“It wasn’t a game for the purist, that’s for sure.
“Our second-half performance was nearer where we wanted to be.
“It’s an important three points, not (just) in terms of the league but because we didn’t deserve to lose on Saturday.
“We now have a chance to iron out the things we could be a little bit cleaner with.”
Here’s how fans reacted to the dramatic end with 3 goals in the final 5 MINUTES as Wycombe beat Rotherham to go second…
@WTIDPOD:
87′ Rotherham goal disallowed. 1-1.
90′ Wycombe score. 1-2.
90+2′ Wycombe score. 1-3.
90+5′ Rotherham pen. 2-3.
🤯 Mental finish.
@David5234249775: You’ve shown great spirit to come back from behind and bounce back after the weekend. Can’t wait for the run-in – hopefully it’s an exciting end to the season, and somehow we both go up 👊👊👊
@apcwwfc: A big 3 points and a blockbuster last 15, it wasn’t pretty in fact it was bloody awful until then! We have to address the goalkeeper situation we can’t keep giving away goals like tonight and Birmingham.
@CJon3s: A very tense 5 minutes at the end 😅 the main takeaway from that game is that Will Norris should not be playing in goal for us
@finnwwfc: Let’s just all pretend that first 70 minutes didn’t happen because that was shocking 😭 but please say this is the lift that we’ve needed to go on and finish the season strong also @richardkone17 is a cheat code
@ChazWarner16: Absolutely massive! Not just because it puts us back second but scored plenty again once we got going and can build confidence! Not have limited confidence in certain players but it was nice to see a bit of fight after going 1-0 down!
@adamgipki: Mad 2nd half but that formation was better, not perfect but we looked like ourselves again. That spirit was great. Kodua’s energy and goal was well deserved. No more tweaks on Saturday Mike please 🙏
@OwenReeman3: WHAT. A. WIN. My God is that needed… After that first half, I was convinced neither team was getting a shot on target, let alone scoring and suddenly there’s 5 goals in the last 30 minutes. Either way, that is massive!!!
@ChrisCooper_22: Sometimes you need some luck to change fortunes and tonight we had some. By no means pretty but the lads kept believing and found a way to get a massive win. Could be the win that gives us new energy. Clearly some improvements needed but important to enjoy the win. #Chairboys
@CraigyBoyBes: Watching this team is like death by a thousand cuts. Freezing cold & bored senseless watching a team with no cohesion, seemingly no game plan & no width which even been saying ALL season. Empty seats should tell TS that we’ve had enough #rufc

This is the worst attendance I have witnessed at the NYS, since day 1, for any type of first team game. How thoroughly depressing. Massive disconnect from Evans ball, as fans vote their feet. #rufc pic.twitter.com/GfTMbNxbEW
