Cardiff City fans slam their own club as they make an announcement over a popular player who has had their departure confirmed.
It’s been a rather meh summer in terms of changes at the Bluebirds, with Mick McCarthy having to make some shrewd decision to try and strengthen his squad ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign.
The Welsh outfit were in more control for the second half of last season under the boss’ leadership and the ex-Republic of Ireland manager gave his best attempt at trying to turn the ship while also trying to not change up his squad all too much, though we have seen some experienced players such as Joe Bennett, Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett exit.

McCarthy has since brought in James Collins, Ryan Wintle and Mark McGuinness on a permanent basis while Ryan Giles has come in from Wolves on loan and we might just seen a few more come in.
Though there is some unhappiness at the recent decision to send Gavin Whyte back to Oxford United on loan, a player who performed well but hasn’t convinced big Mick.
The Northern Ireland international departed for Hull City on loan in January just days before McCarthy was appointed as Neil Harris’ replacement, but he’s been able to have a look at the 25-year-old in pre-season and some Cardiff fans thought that he had done enough to potentially get picked in the club’s starting lineup when they host Barnsley next weekend.
Gavin Whyte has today joined League One club Oxford United on a season-long loan.
The Northern Ireland international previously spent the 2018/19 campaign at the Kassam Stadium, scoring nine goals, before joining the Bluebirds in the summer of 2019.
We’d like to wish Gavin all the very best of luck while away from the Welsh capital.
Oxford United are delighted to welcome back Gavin Whyte who has rejoined the U’s on a season long loan from Cardiff City.
Gavin, now 25, was a huge success during his first spell with the U’s scoring nine times in the 2018/19 season and scoring on his debut for Northern Ireland that same season. A move to Cardiff followed where Gavin played regularly in the Championship before joining Hull City on loan last season were he helped the Tigers win promotion from League One.
“We are absolutely thrilled to get it done” Karl Robinson said. “We think the world of Gav and we know the fans at Oxford love him too. I hope they are as excited as we are to have him back. The Board have been excellent and backed what we are trying to do. We signed Nathan Holland this week and have fantastic competition up top now. We’re not daft, we know there are other positions that need strengthening but when a player of Gavin’s quality becomes available and wants to come here then you take that because you know what a threat he is going to be to opposition defences.
Gavin told the Oxford website: “It’s a great club and obviously I enjoyed my time here before. The Gaffer was great with me then and we have the bulk of the same squad so hopefully we are in contention at the top of the table again. I am ambitious: I want to be part of a team chasing promotion again and the fans were a big part of my decision too. They will be back for the first game and I can’t wait to get out there in front of them again.”
The two clubs are waiting on international clearance: Gavin will be with the U’s at Bristol Rovers today but is unable to play.
Cardiff fans slam their own club as they make announcement, whilst Oxford supporters were the more happier…
@mateojamesh: absolutely disgraceful considering how light we already are and the fact he actually did alright. certainly better than marley watkins who I assume mick is replacing him with
@Gzone77: Not sure about this but good luck at Oxford 👍
@grounderlust1: Had a decent pre season, limited options on the wing….cool 👍🏻
@CraigPaynter: Desperately short on wingers and we let one go on loan. Hope there’s a plan to allow this
@micil57: Will the last creative player to leave please switch off the lights
@NathCcfc: Watkins over whyte? What’s mick smoking?
@wesley_ceiron18: Wtf? He’s had a great pre season
@christiantobz: Don’t you dare sign Marley fucking Watkins
@CCFCFTW123: Fuck off
@Travis_CCFC: Fuck off, don’t you even think about signing Marley Watkins
@SD8716: What the hell is this all about.
@HuwCCFC: What’s the lad got to do to get a bit of league football with us? Surely he’s better (and just as cheap as) Watkins.
@Bluebird131999: Has a good pre-season yet still gets shipped out on loan for the season. Considering we’re supposedly not signing anyone else it’s a bit concerning that the squad size is still decreasing. And Marley Watkins isn’t exactly an ideal wing replacement, 9 goal contributions in 5 yrs.
@Jensen_CCFC: Really? He was having a good pre-season!
@Lwki_: Fuck sake was looking forward too watching him play this season 🤦♂️
@matthewjamesali: This means Marley Watkins is going to be his replacement doesn’t it? Sickening
@Kieron_777: Really don’t understand this. We are very light on attackers, so why we letting another one go?
@dylanow21: We actually gonna use him or put him on loan every season ? He was having a decent preseason too
@TomReek17: Has a decent pre-season and still gets loaned out. This club man.
@ccfcsocial: Best player in pre season, don’t understand this.

@OxHungry: Holland on the left, Whyte on the right, Matty in the middle. This season will be fun
@lukebodily27: Absolutely terrifying that
@laytonleighton: @SkyBetChamp We are coming for you
@Jameshillard99: Stay there forever please lad
@StevenBeacom5: All the best to Northern Ireland star @gavinwhyte8… No doubt he will rock it at Oxford United again…
@GeorgeHogg93: Gavin, Gavin Whyte du do do du do.. #oufc Welcome back Gavlar 💛💙 #oufc
@andywilmer: Incredible work from the manager, board and all involved. Welcome back Gav! #OUFC
@jimzdadlife: Just when you think it couldn’t get ANY better! This IS @OUFCOfficial’s year!
@rayner_will: Welcome back Gavin. 👍🏻 Great to see you back in a yellow shirt. Well done to Karl & the board for making this a window of real quality signings too. From McGuane on, this is great recruitment to give us the chance of a real push for promotion 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Just need a good start! 😉
@Bryancrues: Yes @gavinwhyte8 💚🤍
@benstonebridge: We’re actually gonna win the league
@bobbim_: Thought I heard a helicopter this morning
@KieranLRadio: Holy shit our transfer window has been insane. A left centre back and we’ve got one of the best squads in the league. Front three of Holland Taylor Whyte is ridiculous at this level 😍
@RayRiches5: It’s looking very promising.
@OUFC_: Now that’s a beautiful sight 😍
