Dean Henderson blasts “hurtful” social media over rumours of being arrested

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson blasts “hurtful” social media over rumours of him being the Prem player arrested.

The 24-year-old Englishman was subject to distressing speculation and abusive messages over the weekend, which he claims affected his family.

Henderson took to his personal Instagram account on Monday to release a statement slamming the “fake news” and clarifying the situation.

He wrote: “Can’t believe I’m having to do this but I’d just like to address the rumours that have come to light in the last couple of days.

“There are some sad people in the world that have attached my name to such inappropriate, hurtful and totally false news stories.

“I have a family who have even affected by this so wanted to put the rumours to bed and move on.”

After training with the Manchester United first-team under former manager Louis van Gaal, Henderson went gone on to enjoy successful loan spells with Stockport County and Grimsby Town.

He then joined Shrewsbury for the 2017-18 campaign and almost won promotion to the Championship, with Salop being beaten by Rotherham in the League One playoff final.

But Henderson ended up getting his chance in the second tier the following season, helping Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United to earn promotion to the Premier League.

After signing a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, he rejoined the Blades for a second spell and showed his credentials in the top flight.

Two days ago, a report was issued claiming that an unnamed Premier League player had been arrested for abusing his girlfriend.

This of course lead to a lot of speculation as to who it could be, and shamefully a number of social media users had it in mind that it was Dean Henderson, to which he denied.

Police said that they arrested a Premier League footballer described as being ‘tipped for international honours’ on suspicion of domestic abuse, according to reports.

However this arrest took place back in 2019 after the player’s girlfriend rang the authorities, alleging an attack and claiming she received threatening messages at night.

The player couldn’t be named for legal reasons and is no longer in a relationship with his accuser.

The matter was settled out of court after the player employed lawyers, with police satisfied that a ‘community resolution’ had been found. So surely you question why this story even came out if matter was done and dealt with years back.

The unknown Premier League player reportedly paid a five-figure settlement sum to his ex-girlfriend to bury the matter.

A source told the Sun: ‘This is quite disturbing, especially coming after the claims about Mason Greenwood.

‘In this case, the footballer used his money to get lawyers to sort it out for him and keep it out of the public eye.

‘He reached a settlement and that has effectively silenced the girl in question and stopped court action.

‘Her claims though were very serious, and included at least one allegation of domestic assault.’

Twitter users reacted as Dean Henderson blasts “hurtful” social media over rumours of being arrested…

@MUFCJacob1: Good that he’s spoke out, but these rumours shouldn’t have existed in the first place

@OTFaithful: There’s going to be a lot of apologies heading Dean Henderson’s way this evening. Way too many people jumping to conclusions on the back of baseless accusations.

@JakeBournemouth: @deanhenderson get that chin of yours up immediately

@StokeyyG2: embarrassing that people even faked these rumours in the first place

@DerronDonohoe14: Love you Deano, keep up the hard work. @deanhenderson still my number #1 👏 #MUFC #mulive

@DeanoSeason: I stand with you @deanhenderson ❤️

@_RyanSeymour_: Ill forever love this guy, people need to stop with these rumours, it can proper hurt people🧤 ⚽️ @deanhenderson #PremierLeague #twitterblades

@ChrisTheShrew:
Sue ’em.
1 – it would clear his name unequivocally
2 – people might think twice before doing it to someone else

@JamieCFC98: Absolute Muppets online creating false rumours about Dean Henderson committing assault. Same people who pretend to be outraged about Mason Greenwood clearly just think assault is just a joke.

@utd_Lewis: the united fanbase doesn’t deserve Deano, i hope he leaves and i’m supporting whichever cloob he goes to

@DDesiigns: Just want to put out there people who fake rumours to try and destroy peoples lives are evil and grim. First Salah and now Dean Henderson. Why? like genuinely why ? i don’t get it but that’s how the world is nowadays i guess and it’s disgusting.

@bbarrymurphy: So Dean Henderson has had to go to the media to deny he’s the one leaking the #MUFC stories to the media he shouldn’t have to do that but he should now go back to the club & grab his teammates who are leaking the stories & tell them to put up, shut up or f**k off out of #MUFC
