David Prutton’s EFL Championship score predictions have been revealed this week, and he’s got plenty to say on each of them.
The former Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Leeds, Swindon, Sheffield Wednesday and England U21 footballer who currently works as a presenter, pundit and commentator has given his thoughts on the outcome of all twelve Championship matches.
After looking at majority of his predictions, it’s found that last season he was mostly accurate and that if you put the scores he’s gone with into a table, it is was similar to the standings. See what he scores he went with below…
Coventry vs Reading
Coventry started brightly but have fallen away in recent weeks. Consolidation is key for them this season after so long away from the Championship.
Reading have been so impressive. Defensively good despite conceding two in midweek, but that’s only a slight criticism as it’s hard to find too many of them at the minute! Away win here for me.
Prutton predicts: 0-2
Bristol City vs Norwich
Bristol City have fallen away a little after such a bright start to the season. They’ve had some tough games lately but the goals have dried up a little.
This should be a good game. As we know Norwich have recent Premier League experience and these late shows reflect a good bit of back bone and character. I’ll back a draw here.
Prutton predicts: 2-2
Barnsley vs Watford
Valerien Ismael seems to have got them off to a flyer with a great win against QPR in midweek.
They have a knack of shrewd managerial appointments, Barnsley, and could well be on to another winner here.
Watford have an excellent squad, but this will be another tough game for them.
They have only scored more than once in a game all season, and I think they will be held again on Saturday.
Prutton predicts: 1-1
Stoke vs Rotherham
I think I’ve undersold Stoke a little this season! Despite a disappointing defeat in midweek they have been ticking along nicely under Michael O’Neill. They have a squad to be aiming for the top six.
Rotherham got a great win in midweek against Sheffield Wednesday. They will always put up a fight, but I think Stoke should have too much.
Prutton predicts: 2-1
Swansea vs Blackburn
Swansea are going well and have had a great start under Steve Cooper and got back to winning ways against Stoke in midweek.
Blackburn are looking ferocious up front but frail at the back, which is probably why they are in mid-table. This feels to me like a home win, although with a few goals.
Prutton predicts: 3-2
Wycombe vs Sheffield Wed
Wycombe got a great point against Watford in midweek and it could even have been more. It was, however, vital for them to finally get off the mark.
Sheffield Wednesday do find themselves in a tough position.
They need to get to zero points as quickly as possible but it doesn’t look like happening right now. It feels like a Wycombe win.
Prutton predicts: 2-1
Bournemouth vs Derby
David Prutton has predicted that it will be the Cherries coming away with a 2-0 win against Derby. Bournemouth have been finding life in the Championship well, winning 1-0 against Bristol City in the previous fixture. Derby drew 1-1 at home to Cardiff.
Bournemouth: 2nd – played 8 – won 4 – drew 4 – lost 0 – 16 points
Derby: 16th – played 8 – won 1 – drew 2 – lost 5 – 5 points
Luton vs Brentford
David Prutton has predicted that this encounter will end up finishing 2-2. The Hatters drew 1-1 with Forest on Wednesday, and Brentford drew 1-1 with Norwich on Tuesday.
Luton: 9th – played 8 – won 4 – drew 1 – lost 3 – 13 points
Brentford: 11th – played 8 – won 3 – drew 2 – lost 3 – 11 points
Middlesbrough vs N Forest
David Prutton has predicted that this fixture will play out to a 1-1 draw. Boro won their midweek clash 2-0 against Coventry, whilst Forest drew 1-1 at Luton.
Middlesbrough: 8th – played 8 – won 3 – drew 4 – lost 1 – 13 points
N Forest: 20th – played 8 – won 1 – drew 3 – lost 4 – 6 points
Millwall vs Huddersfield
David Prutton has predicted that Millwall will continue their fine form with a 2-0 win against Carlos Corboran’s squad. The Lions beat Preston on Wednesday whilst the Terriers lost 2-1 at Birmingham.
Millwall: 3rd – played 8 – won 4 – drew 3 – lost 1 – 15 points
Huddersfield: 16th – played 8 – won 3 – drew 1 – lost 4 – 10 points
Preston vs Birmingham
David Prutton has predicted that Birmingham will come out 1-0 winners following their 2-1 win against Huddersfield in midweek. Alex Neil’s side lost 2-0 against Millwall on Wednesday.
Preston: 13th – played 8 – won 3 – drew 1 – lost 4 – 10 points
Birmingham: 15th – played 8 – won 2 – drew 4 – lost 2 – 10 points
QPR vs Cardiff
David Prutton has predicted that Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City will draw 2-2. The Bluebirds drew 1-1 with Derby in midweek whilst Mark Warburton’s side were on the end of a 3-0 defeat at Barnsley. Ouch.
QPR: 19th – played 8 – won 1 – drew 4 – lost 3 – 7 points
Cardiff: 14th – played 8 – won 2 – drew 4 – lost 2 – 10 points
