Darren Moore and John Mousinho take aim at officials over decisions and time-wasting during Sheffield Wednesday v Portsmouth.
League One leaders Sheffield Wednesday extended the club-record unbeaten streak to 22 league games by picking up a 1-0 victory against Pompey.
Josh Windass found the net in the 11th minute for his 15th goal of this season, giving the hosts their first defeat at home since New Year’s Day.
Michael Smith flicked on a long ball upfield to meet Windass, who netted calmly into the far corner at an acute angle.
Darren Moore felt that a foul on Sheffield Wednesday’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru should have resulted in a red card for Portsmouth.
Dominic Iorfa was sent off on the back of two yellow cards.
Moore felt that the first of Iorfa’s bookings was ‘debatable’, and also thought that Sean Raggett deserved a straight red for a strong tackle from behind on Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
“I’m glad you’ve brought that up,” he said on the FDB incident, as per The Star. “The one in the 87th minute, you can all have a look at it. He’s lost control, and the rules deem that when a player leaves the ground with two feet off the ground then it’s deemed uncontrollable. Therefore it’s a red card, and you’ll see that in the video.
“He came into Fizz, and I’m just glad that Fizz has come out of it unscathed because it could have been far more serious than that.”
How is that not a red card!!! He’s got a yellow WTF!! Consistency??? Absolute joke #wawaw #swfc @swfc @efl pic.twitter.com/CerNETPA38

Pompey boss John Mousinho was unhappy at Wednesday “time-wasting”, feeling that referee Ben Toner should have done more in order to stop the leaders slowing down the game after Dominic Iorfa was sent off.
Mousinho said, as per YorkshireLive: “It was really frustrating.
“We played well from the first minute to the last. The effort levels were there, we know that. It was a feisty encounter and we saw a lot of commitment from the boys.
“Ultimately I thought we were unlucky not to get at least a point from the game. They clearly had a plan to kill the game and waste time.
“There’s no problem with Sheffield Wednesday doing that, but a bit more of a problem with how the refereeing unit dealt with it.”
Mousinho did go on to credit the Owls, saying: “When Sheffield Wednesday had their chance they put it in the net. We got a few good crossing opportunities in the final third, we couldn’t quite take advantage of the positions we got in.
“So we ended up losing because of that slight bit of difference in quality.”
And what’s all this with Towelgate?
This bizarre moment held the game up for a number of minutes in the game with a staff member told by Mousinho to go get towels from around the field of play, but it seems the referee took issue with something that was said, The Star reports.
Those on the Sheffield Wednesday bench weren’t pleased with Will Vaulks not being allowed to use a towel to wipe the ball prior to throwing the ball into the box.
Moore spoke on what happened: “What we were saying is that, if you’ve got the towels then the towels should be for both teams – but what they were doing was saying that the towels were just for them. So we said, ‘Can we put towels down for our own players?’
“There was a bit of an argument, and it was said that because they were the home team they were allowed to do it and so on. For me though, I just wanted to get on with the game.
On if a meeting set up with Howard Webb had taken place: “Not yet. But we understand that Howard is a really busy man. Myself and Barry Bannan want to have that meeting as and when we can though. It’s about bridging the gap between the match day officials and the management team and the staff – we want the technical area in sync, and surely it’ll make the game better.”
“I’ve got no complaints with the second, it’s a booking… But the first was debatable on the so-called time-wasting.”
Darren Moore wasn’t convinced that Dominic Iorfa should even have been on a yellow card to get sent off. https://t.co/UqrA5Dlb1q 🦉⚽️

This s what fans had to say as Darren Moore and John Mousinho take aim at officials over decisions and time-wasting…
ON THE IORFA – OGILVIE INCIDENT
@steve_noonan: Never a yellow
@NeonBrown10: Seriously? That was it?
@samboo20: Very harsh that not even a yellow
@Jolly_Good_Show: That 2nd yellow is soft as shite
@bigowl1976: Soft. Very soft.
@ryangibsonuk: Tangle of legs. Ref is a joke.
@Owlsonline: So. THIS was deemed just as bad as their yellow card for a two footed, out of control from behind ‘tackle’… Hmmm….
@Ashley_Ogden: Not even a fucking foul
@carl_crossfire: Nothing there at all… attacker runs into him… free kick yes, yellow card never… if that’s a yellow then the guy who cleaned up FDB should be banned for rest of the season!!
@adamrichards_1: Second yellow for that 🤣 banter league this.
@msatur1991: Their player has manufactured that. Waited for contact to come in. I guess being top of the league on a long unbeaten streak, teams will try anything to get one up on us. It seems like it’s been their tactic from the start.
@_JoeDavison: Refs played a blinder, could have killed him
@smirnoffmachine: This was @Pompey all day though. Dive, cheat and then try to blame us for timewasting 😂 didn’t mind them until after the game yesterday, now I hope they rot for season upon season
@AlexSwfc142: Never a card. Typical EFL officials fucking up again.
@hirsty9: Utterly ridiculous that is a red.
ON THE RAGGETT – FDB INCIDENT
@MrPaulPashley: The refs stood RIGHT next to it. Absolute disgrace of a decision that.
@drabbs1: Other way defo red 🤷♂️ and Iorfa walks for two soft yellows 🤐
@deaks83: Sunday league tackle that. Ref sounds like a right whopper. Again. Common theme with our games recently 🙈
@flood902: I can see Howard Webb setting up residency at Sheffield 6!!!
@carl_crossfire: @efl you are an utter joke if you do not start to take action against lousy officiating. This is happening week after week against us… this one less than 10 yards from the ref… how can this not be a straight red?
@PaulBeaman4: Don’t always agree with Wendies but this is a joke @EFL refereeing is at an all time low. It’s practically every game 🤷🏼♂️
@leedavid92: Referees this season in most of the games I’ve been to have been nothing short of shithouses, If I was as useless at my job as some of the refs I’d have been shown my p45 the referee at hillsborough vs Ipswich nearly stopped the game twice, through all fault of his own !!
@DannyMalpass09: Most blatant red card I’ve seen!
you’re actually fucking having a laugh hahahha pic.twitter.com/6Xxu1winN0
