Darragh MacAnthony fumes as the FA punish Peterborough striker over social media posts

Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony fumes in response as the FA punish Peterborough striker Jonson Clarke-Harris over his social media posts.

It is alleged the comments of his, which were posted between October 2012 and March 2013, included reference to sexual orientation.

The Football Association confirmed Clarke-Harris has until the 25th of August 2021 to provide a response, with the posts allegedly breaching FA Rule E3.

“Peterborough United FC’s Jonson Clarke-Harris has been charged with misconduct for six breaches of FA Rule E3 in relation to social media comments posted between 27 October 2012 and 6 March 2013,” the FA said in a statement on Monday.

“It is alleged that these posts were insulting and/or abusive and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute contrary to FA Rule E3.1.

“It is further alleged that these breaches of FA Rule E3.1 also constitute an ‘aggravated breach’, which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as they included reference to sexual orientation.

“Jonson Clarke-Harris has until Wednesday 25 August 2021 to provide a response.”

Peterborough United co-owner Darragh MacAnthony has since reacted to Jonson Clarke-Harris’s FA charge for making improper tweets almost nine years ago.

He said: “Somebody, just after we won promotion, spent hours going through a then 18 year-olds’ tweets to find stuff and then reported him. World we live in nowadays. More on this nearer time of hearing etc. Cheers.”

The FA has launched an investigation into alleged racist and homophobic chants from Derby County supporters at Peterborough United.

Supporters’ group Punjabi Rams highlighted comments made towards Derby winger Kamil Jozwiak and a Peterborough player during Saturday’s Championship game.

They tweeted: “A disappointing result but what was even more disappointing was the fact a minority of our fans made a homophobic slur towards a Peterborough player and racist comments towards Jozwiak.

“We’ve reported the incidents and encourage others to do the same if heard or seen.”

Derby later responded that they had been made aware of the incident.

In a brief statement on Twitter, Derby said: “We thank Punjabi Rams for rightly reporting these incidents and do not, in any way, condone these actions.

“We will work with the relevant authorities to determine who these individuals were.

“Enough is enough.”

An EFL statement later read: “The EFL is sickened and saddened to hear allegations of homophobic and racist abuse at Peterborough United v Derby County today.

“The message is clear, discrimination, prejudice and abuse, whether in the stadium or online has absolutely no place in our game.

“The EFL and its Clubs stand together against discrimination and those who do not agree are not welcome.”

As Darragh MacAnthony fumes with the FA choosing to punish the Peterborough striker over his social media posts from years ago, fans have hit out…

@aidan__02: Jog on

@DaleEms27: Lad calls someone a bender 9 years ago and you wanna ruin his life? Fucking society we live in makes me sick

@Benbrisley1: 2012 🤣🤣🤣 ain’t you lot got anything better to do doing?

@timjenkinson28: I’m sure his response will be it was nearly 9 years ago he was still a teenager find one teenager who hasn’t made at least 1 silly mistake. How is this classed as a win for anyone judge him on the person he is now not the teenager he was then.

@avfcdom2: he was literally 18 have a word with yourself 🤣

@davidgilmour84: Dear FA, Please spend more money on training refs. Cheers, Every fan everywhere.

@ChrisBowden3: Surely this is a piss take? It was 9 years ago how can you charge a player now ? How about you focus on some of the other shit said on here…..

@PompeyFan24680: Hope the FA liquidates

@emmaverde9: This is ridiculous- if it was ‘reported’ to you it obviously didn’t bother you when it was actually tweeted. What do you expect him to say he is sorry for what he was thinking and writing when he was 18. I think we would all say that.

@Carlwilks2011: This is embarrassing to the lad, and pathetic its been dug up from such a long time ago. Are you telling us everyone was perfect when they were younger, we all make mistakes. But as long as you learn by them that’s what matters. None of you lot are perfect #pufc

@BR15TL3P05H: What sort of an arsehole takes notice of something that was posted by a seventeen year old, and remembers it or trawls the internet looking for it?

@SportingTC: So presumably the person that discovered this has a) nothing better to do than dig up dirt and b) lead an impecabbly perfect lifestyle thereby making no mistakes to correct

@jeanneventers: How so very sad is this. That somebody is sad enough to report what a teenager said 8 years ago. How sad EFL even acted now. This will start something now he won’t be the last. Sad sad world we live in …. Get a grip worse things going on.

@harriettcxo: The fact the FA would rather dig into the past of a now well respected sportsman in @ClarkeHarris rather than current keyboard warriors and those throwing racial slurs and death threats for fun, shows everything that is wrong in this sport.

@Jinks_11: 2012 ffs. Why are organizations bowing down to freaks on the internet so often

@hollyman07: This is one of most ridiculous things I have seen! We will be charging people with fighting in the playground when they were five years old next!!

@SkybluesZoneYT: That’s sad, some people really have no life

@Will_Butts: Was he even governed by the same rules in those years? How bloody sad are some people to churn this crap over and over in an effort to damage others? Hope JCH walks away with reputation intact. Good luck. Waste of time/money. #upthedalenotforsale

@nathan_young92: I regularly cringe, disagree and regret stuff I said in the past as a teenager when I look at Facebook memories. Considering JCH was also a pro when tweeting this stuff and no action was taken just adds to how pathetic this is.

@MartinD1883: What sad lives the FA have. Sit down all day and read old tweets by footballers. Everyone says silly things when their young. Such deluded idiots @FA

@JackToulson12: The tweets are literally from nearly a decade ago. Why do the FA constantly feel the need to tarnish people’s reputations? Clarke-Harris has done nothing wrong.

@Ericm8_: The FA Needs to Disband itself. 9 Year Old tweets? Are you taking the mickey here? @FAspokesperson

@PeterScholes55: I bet @DMAC102 is fuming, but then again he probably can’t say anything else they’ll do him too

@RendallAlfie: Completely and utterly pathetic

@DavidFlewellen: If you’re going to take more than eight years to charge him, you should give him eight years to respond, @FA.

@braden_henson: Literally 8/9 years ago get a fucking grip

@gr5ntc0iley: 2012, the bloke was still a kid then! Fuck off.

@gwandaddy: The FA really are the biggest twats in football

@DW94_: Comments posted 9 years ago. Grow up.

@Daveyboylyon: Comments from a teenager in 2012….. Haven’t the @FA got anything better to be doing? Absolute madness. Yes, contact him, ask him to remove them. But to charge him with something…. Wow. #PUFC
