Daniel Farke speaks for the first time on becoming new Leeds United manager

Former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke speaks for the first time on becoming new Leeds United manager on a four-year deal.

The 46-year-old German spent four years with the Canaries having led them to promotion twice and spent last season with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach but was axed after they a 10th place finished.

Leeds were relegated from the Premier League last season after a campaign that saw them sack two managers, with Sam Allardyce then unable to keep them up.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Leeds United are delighted to announce the appointment of Daniel Farke as the club’s new first team manager.

A two time winner of the Sky Bet Championship whilst in charge of Norwich City, Farke has agreed a four-year deal at Elland Road.

The 46-year-old German succeeds Sam Allardyce who left the Whites at the end of last season.

Enjoying a career as a player in the German lower leagues, predominantly with SV Lippstadt, he went on to manage the club, before taking the reins at Borussia Dortmund II.

This led to him being named Norwich City boss in the summer of 2017 and he enjoyed great success at Carrow Road.

In the 2018/19 campaign he guided Norwich to the Sky Bet Championship title, finishing five points above Sheffield United in second and 11 ahead of Leeds in third, taking the club back to the top-flight for the first time in three years.

Farke was unable to keep the Canaries in the Premier League, but on their return to the second-tier, he once more guided the Norfolk side to the Championship title, with Norwich picking up 97 points, three more than their success two years prior.

After 208 games and a four-and-a-half year spell at Carrow Road, he departed the club in November 2021.

In January 2022, Farke joined FC Krasnodar, but following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, left the club three months later, without managing a game, due to the winter break.

At the start of last season, Farke took charge of Borussia Monchengladbach and he led them to a 10th place finish in Bundesliga, before departing at the end of the campaign.

He now joins Leeds United, looking to guide the Whites back to the Premier League.

The newly appointed manager stated: “I’d like to thank everyone for the really warm welcome, I’m really grateful at this moment, to work for this amazing club.

“I feel humble at this time, I know the responsibility to fulfil all the expectations and I want to repay the trust shown.

“The most important thing is to create a togetherness and unity within this club again and from today onwards, I will work on it with my staff and players, and I trust our supporters will be there when we need them. I can’t wait for the first game of the season.”

Speaking on the announcement, Paraag Marathe said: “After a thorough recruitment process, we are excited to confirm Daniel’s appointment as our first team manager.

“His record in the Championship is clear, and I am impressed by his leadership and plan to guide us back to the Premier League.

“We welcome Daniel and his staff to the club and look forward to a strong season.”

Farke will be assisted by Eddie Riemer, with Christopher John and Chris Domogalla also joining the coaching team at Elland Road, having previously worked together at Norwich.

His first league match in charge of the club will be on Sunday 6th August, with Leeds taking on Cardiff City in the first game of the Sky Bet Championship campaign at Elland Road.

@Dale_Coper: A very smart choice, a coach with great experience in the Championship and able to succeed with the team by ascending to the Premier League 🤍✅

@MLF995: I’m so excited for Farke. Not been this excited since Bielsa. Let’s Let’s this. #lufc

@Carra_Rud: Leeds fans seem genuinely pleased they’ve got Farke. I was hoping they’d be annoyed by it. Damn those sensible #lufc fans

@philipjones09: Farke is a good decision. Think we have to invest in him and give him the funds to build a great squad. Norwich kept being relegated as they never invested in their team under him while in premier #LUFC

@JimmJamm83: A manager who knows what it takes to get out of this league…. definitely the right appointment 🔵🟡🔵🟡 #LUFC #ALAW #MOT

@Leedsviv: Superb appointment. Common sense has prevailed. Hopefully a sign of things to come from the 49ers #lufc

@ChattingLeeds: He’s here 😍 Finally some good news for once! Hopefully more good things start to happen now, makes me more excited for the season now!! #LUFC

@tnekmail: All managerial appointments are gambles, but as a club, when you appoint the best qualified man available, you limit the pushback if it goes wrong. Happy with this. #LUFC

@Panikkar37: Soooooo excited at #LUFC announcing Daniel Farke! Tons of potential for this season to be a memorable one and get back to the Premier League in 1 shot!

@IufcIiam: daniel farke i fucking love you

@allleedsaerntwe: He said it exactly right the last thing he said, we need 11 players who will play their heart out, sadly we have lost that identity the last few seasons, really confident of this appointment.

@cianwoody: I think he has a solid understanding of what it means to be Leeds. What he says at the end is bang on. Get rid of players who wont give it all for our shirt. We can all get behind a team that has pride, no matter where we finish.

@HealyFtbl: Really excited to see Farke ball at Elland Road. Give him time. He’s come in reasonably late due to obvious reasons & we may not get the start we want. But, as time goes on, we’ll see improvements. Very happy with this Appointment. #LUFC #MOT

@maxbrimmo93: No manager, they moan. Get arguably the most qualified man for the job to get us back up, they moan. Bore off armchair fans. Ready to back Farke and he’ll get us back up no doubt 👌#alaw #mot #lufc

@LeeCharleton: Knows the league, got out of it twice, knows the repercussions of relegation & how to rebuild. Comes across well, plays good football and you know he won’t take crap from egos. Can’t imagine many being disenchanted with Farke. Looking forward to it. #lufc

@lottielufc8: Finally a manager speaking facts he knows!!!

@wicketlufc: fans are always behind the team, we need a decent team to match the fans ambition. I hope he’s given the money to bring in some quality players, then hope he has the balls the show the exit door to Bamford, ayling. cooper, koch, struijk, Aaronson, firpo, foreshaw,

@HarryW472: Buzzing Farke has finally been announced as manager. Can’t believe we’ve signed a manager with a proven championship record for once 😍 #LUFC

@Ken_Bates_PA: That feels like a sensible appointment, not some fucking hipster appointment from the Albanian 2nd tier, we’d have made under Orta, and that feels good. Easy for the owners, just back him. #LUFC

@philipjones09: Farke is a good decision. Think we have to invest in him and give him the funds to build a great squad. Norwich kept being relegated as they never invested in their team under him while in premier #LUFC
