Dag & Red sign ex-West Ham, Crystal Palace, Coventry, Colchester, Ipswich, Scunthorpe player Freddie Sears, with the move surprising fans.
He began his career with his local club West Ham United at the age of 11, progressing through the West Ham United Academy and made a scoring first-team debut in March 2008 when he netted the winner against Blackburn Rovers after coming on as a second-half sub.
Sears made over 50 first-team appearances for West Ham, but never held down a regular starting position, going on to endure loan spells with the likes of Crystal Palace, Coventry City and Scunthorpe United, before joining Colchester United for the latter half of the 2011–12 season.
He netted twice in 11 appearances for the U’s, prompting the club to sign him on a permanent basis from the Hammers in July 2012 and after joining them, Sears rediscovered his scoring form, netting 34 goals in 99 games in his two-and-a-half year stay before departing for Ipswich. Sears has also represented England at under-19, under-20 and under-21 levels.
He headed back to Colchester in 2021, and in his two year stay with them, he netted 16 goals in 76 games, before leaving in September 2023 for National League outfit Dagenham & Redbridge, making his debut for them the day of his announcement, coming on as a sub in a 0-0 draw at Halifax.
