Cray Wanderers take aim at the referee after a player of theirs was left bloodied as he shows off his nasty leg injury.
In came in the 2-0 defeat away at Hornchurch in the Isthmian League Premier Division on Tuesday night, with Cray taking to social media, revealing what the referee said and the decision he gave after the incident.
They wrote in a Twitter post: Ref said “He caught him on the ankle” and then gave a drop ball 🤦♂️”
A photo of the injury was also uploaded, with the player Tom Beere saying: “We need a serious discussion about referees… if my leg was planted it would’ve been in 2 pieces 😤😤 but let’s all stick up for refs they got such a hard job.”

This is what Twitter users said while Cray Wanderers take aim at referee after a player of theirs were left bloodied as he shows off a nasty leg injury…
@offeyicial: He play against Wolverine?
@drakson_MCI: Normal Jack Grealish leg after every match
@offeyicial: We need a serious discussion about referees… if my leg was planted it would’ve been in 2 pieces 😤 but let’s all stick up for refs they got such a hard job
@rpoore1882: Not excusing the clear bad tackle but Half of that’s avoided if he wears proper shinpads 🤷♂️
@jcott100: Pathetic shinpads 🤦🏻♂️ when I was a kid they covered your whole shin and had ankle pads with them 🤣
@piggymoment: The standard of refereeing at non-league level is absolutely disgusting, at best!
@EvanGrogan8: You playing against Freddy Krueger?
@BristolianDream: That’s obviously a shocker, but don’t wear those baby pads and then complain about cuts on your shin 😬
@SnattyN: Who tackled yer, Edward ScissorHand 🙈😫
@ThomasFarmer: Your issue shouldn’t be with the ref, it should be with whoever made the challenge. I’m sure the ref standard is similar to the playing standard. The challenge itself would suggest that.
@KingsOfRugby72: People blaming shinpads, his shin is like the only part of his leg that isn’t cut. They’re not the issue
@bigg_truzz: Love the comments about proper shin pads,,,, do we not see the only part of his leg not destroyed is where the pads were?
@AFCLjB: That’s proper nasty. And no shin pad is preventing it as it’s not on the shin🙄 Shin pads are there to cushion blows to the shin bone. This clearly is not the shin bone.
@Samwinton99: Maybe a proper shin pad doesn’t prevent all the damage but it definitely helps. Can’t claim to care about your safety and use pads that are too small for a 3 year old kid let alone an adult
@phillyrussell: Mate, if a referee has done that to you then you should be reporting him to the necessary league, no way should he be officiating matches if he’s making tackles in them too!
@simonbass10: How’s that even possible 🙈🙈
@JimboD91: This is atrocious. And not sticking up for the standard of refs at all. But the player is seriously compromising his own safety with the state of those shin pads.
@clare23911: Winds me up. I absolutely understand that refs are capable of making mistakes. But they should be made to come out and either admit to the mistake or explain their decision. Why aren’t they held accountable? Managers and captains have to explain their decisions. Refs should too.
@john_clubb: Unbelievable, Tom. After what you’ve been through with your ACL and to have someone do this late in a game and the ref to not even give a free kick is nothing short of scandalous. Love you mate. ❤️ xx
@GallyWSM180: You’ve never tried reffing a game have you Tom? You need 20 sets of eyes and to be in 10 places at once at all times. Its an impossibly task for one person the game needs to be updated with more officials
@DaiWilliams10: No football player at any level should end the game with injuries like that. We all have work the next day and referees need to start safeguarding players more.
@DuncanCulley: Christ mate!! Absolute shambles the lot of them. Inferiority complex, mixed with never having played the game… and it’s only getting worse. Speedy recovery. ❤️🩹
@JJKF1: Reading these comments about getting proper shin pads. Can they see your other leg? Shin pad protecting the shin bone on the mid/inside of your leg. The pad will move with contact to the outside of the leg too. Clearly these trolls haven’t played football before 🙄
