Coventry’s Frank Lampard vents frustration over match officials and Norwich’s tactical antics in the 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Norwich nearly came away with all three points, with Mathias Kvistgaarden scoring in first-half goal, but Haji Wright’s 96th minute leveller mean tit was a point for both sides.
Coventry dominated for much of the game but faced disruptions from Norwich’s tactics, with Vladan Kovacevic and Kellen Fisher booked before half time.
The result means that Coventry sit 6th in the Chapionship with 9 points from 5 games, Norwich meanwhile are 10th with 7 points.
Lampard said, per Eastern Daily Press: “It is frustrating, but it is football. So it’s for the referee to deal with, not us, and I thought we kept our heads very well, to keep playing and to not get overly frustrated because some things were pretty clear what was going on. But it does happen,” said Lampard. “If they’re going to defend with a lot of numbers, that’s fine. They would say they defended their box well and it’s hard to score sometimes when they’re blocking, and credit to them and all those things.
“But our build-up play to keep getting in there and sustaining higher attacks and winning it back and going again was brilliant.
“So we were all disappointed because of it but we have to understand it. Sometimes it doesn’t go your way, as I’ve been trying to explain, and we take out from the performance how we want to play. This is what we want us to be and if we can continue with that then we’ll win games like that much more often than not.”
“I thought (a draw) was the least we deserved. We played fantastic, absolutely fantastic against a good team. Norwich is a very good team in this league; good players, recruited in the summer, a good coach and we dominated every part of the game.
“Of course they get their goal and some breakaway moments but they were very rare. But everything we wanted out of our team we did. We had 28 shots, most of the possession and expected goals, all that stuff, and it was absolutely the least we deserved.”
Coventry City boss Frank Lampard told BBC CWR:
“It was a fanastic performance from the team, from minute one.
“We started the game really well and they score from their first little moment, but we continued all the way through and created a lot.
“We moved the ball really well, looked really sharp, everything you want in a performance, the only thing you’re lacking is the win and that’s because it’s ‘one of those days’.
“Then it’s a test of character and they certainly stood up to that because we pushed until the end of the game.
“And barring the natural disappointment of the three points which you don’t get, I’m really proud of the players.”
Norwich boss Liam Manning told BBC Radio Norfolk:
“Hugely disappointing to concede so late like we did but I think when you reflect on the performance level against a well-established side that are ahead of us in terms of time together, ultimately it’s not a bad point to take on the road.
“We performed a lot better against Middlesbrough and lost. Disappointed not to get more but when you step back and look at it, I think it’s a good point.
“I thought we defended the box terrifically well. In terms of the fight, the spirit and the desire to give everything, there was a strong foundation to grow.”

Fans reacted as Coventry’s Frank Lampard vents frustration over match officials and Norwich’s tactical antics…
@Anthony_Hornsby: We are a VERY good football team. We are relentless and technically brilliant. Teams will visit the CBS this season with that exact plan to slow, frustrate & cheat. Not all of them will be as good at it as Norwich & not all of them will have the ref as a 12th man. #PUSB
@RobPUSB: Played well but didn’t play their game. Ref was giving us nothing but we kept making stupid mistakes. 20+ shots and only 2 on target and you’re never going to get where you want to be. Two points dropped. Shocking day for our forwards.
@Asa_Cov: That was one of the worst refereeing performances I have ever witnessed. As for Norwich biggest time wasters I have ever seen they did this to us a few years back as well. The ref stopped the game 107 times absolute joke battered them all game as well
@rcw9715: 107 stoppages against Norwich.. referee and foul play needs looking at that’s a mess. Never seen anything like it
@SephtonMark: Biggest load of time wasters and bordering on cheating. #PUSB
@CharliePUSB: Proud of the character. Dark arts and some, can’t believe the ref blew straight away after 3 injuries and a goal in added time. Shocking decisions all game.
@nattiecw: Crap referee and Liam Manning is not fit to lace Frank’s boots. To coach your team to cheat and time waste like that is embarrassing 😳. They got what they deserved in the end. I would be ashamed if Coventry ever played that way. Fortunately they don’t! We’re still unbeaten tho!
Championship Refereeing BTW…
Can someone please explain to me how the referee is stood 10 yards away with a clear view and has came to the conclusion that this is a dive🤣#PUSB pic.twitter.com/lFiWV552ex

Best part of today, Thomas being interviewed as motm in the cov lounge after the game and being asked “I know you can’t speak your mind but the ref made a difference today?” and Bobby saying “yeah I don’t care the ref was shite” 😂😂 #pusb
