Coventry upload hilarious TikTok video mocking Watford sacking their manager

Coventry City decided to upload a hilarious TikTok video mocking Saturday’s opponents Watford sacking their manager Valerien Ismael.

The Sky Blues captioned the post: “We just wanted a little party 🥹” then added within the video “When you’re trying to celebrate a win but the Watford board are upstairs sacking their manager.”

The video that plays out shows Coventry players celebrating with the packed out away end, with Karl Pilkington inserted in at the bottom doing the scenes from An Idiot Abroad in which he says “It’s funny isn’t it, even though it’s like a vibey area, with a bit of Human League, it’s happier ain’t it.”

It surfaced after Watford sacked Ismael having suffered a defeat at home to Coventry on Saturday. Haji Wright scored twice as Mark Robins’ side come from 1-0 down to win 2-1 and maintain their playoff push.

It comes days as Coventry manager Mark Robins said after Saturday’s game it ‘irked him’ that people were talking about the WhatsApps messages seemingly shared between him and the club’s Head of Recruitment Dean Austin in midweek.

The remarks made by Robins regarding Watford or former boss Valerien Ismael were not particularly positive.

Despite the accuracy of their statements in hindsight, the fact that these comments were made public may have added tension to the situation, as acknowledged by Robins himself as “a little bit of needle in the game”.

When asked, he said, per Watford Observer: “I don’t know. No idea. But ultimately what a load of rubbish.

“The fact that people are talking about that, it irks me to be honest with you.

“If that’s news, then it’s a sad reflection.

“I don’t know, you’d have to ask them.

“I thought we were poor in the first half. They played well in the second half the other night and carried that on,” he admitted.

“They have some really talented individuals who have a lot of pace and power, and they can hurt you. Thankfully they didn’t.

“There were too many turnovers in possession from both sides.

“There was a little bit of needle in the game. It just looked like one of those games where you’ve got to fight and scrap for anything out of it.

“We didn’t really have enough of the ball to create anything and then they scored a goal out of nothing – a long throw where we didn’t really compete for it.

“We had a little bit of a foothold, Josh Eccles goes round the keeper who brings him down for a penalty and it brings us a bit of a lifeline.

“I was contemplating making changes before that, before half-time. There were too many times when they had the two v ones down our right in the first half.

“The second half followed a similar pattern, although it was a little bit of basketball at times: you have it, we have it.

“Thankfully the best bit of play in the game was where we kept the ball, slid it across to Haji Wright and he’s got time to pick his spot.

“Really from then on there was nothing in it, just see the game out.”

Watford currently sit 13th in the Championship, seven points above the relegation zone with the Hornets installing Tom Cleverley as interim manager in his first senior managerial post; and he becomes Watford’s 21st manager since the Pozzo family took over in 2020.

A club statement from Watford read: “The Hornets thank Valerien and his staff for their dedication and commitment, however the club’s board considers it an appropriate time to make a change in order to improve results.”

Watford’s Valerien Ismael speaking after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Coventry:

“Finally we started strong in a home game and we continued from the second half against Swansea. We took the decision to have a mobile midfield again and had a great start with lots of chances.

“We should have scored a second goal, but then from nowhere they got the penalty. In the second half we continued to push, but they scored from their only shot on target, so it’s a real pity today.

“But we saw good energy and good dynamic on the pitch to change the way things are going at the minute.

“We had some crosses too high, some crosses too low, some crosses blocked, but at least we tried and our game was back.

“We didn’t see anything from Coventry today. It was just one of those days when things run against you.

“We kept pushing and we were dangerous, but when things don’t go your way, you start to think too much again. We know that we can compete, but it is about confidence, too.”
