Coventry fans slam Oxford’s Placheta for ‘trying to take Milan Van Ewijk’s head off’

Coventry fans slam Oxford’s Przemyslaw Placheta for ‘trying to take Milan Van Ewijk’s head off’ during Friday night’s game.

The U’s signed the 26 year old Poland international winger on a free transfer, having been released by Swansea earlier this summer.

But it seems viewers watching on at home and those in the stadium in his most recent game didn’t like his antics.

Footage has been posted on social media showing one of these moments, with many also annoyed at how he went unpunished, while other Sky Blue fans say Coventry and Milan Van Ewijk had the last laugh by going on to win the game.

The Championship clash saw Haji Wright score a dramatic winner deep into stoppage time at the Coventry Building Society Arena to snatch all the points.

Mark Robins’ side initially held a two-goal advantage, courtesy of strikes from Wright and Milan van Ewijk. However, they were pulled back with Oxford levelling through Ciaran Brown and subsequently by Mark Harris.

But late in injury time, Haji made his way in, Oxford couldn’t catch him. He rounded the goalkeeper and slotted it home to send the home fans wild.

Mark Robins spoke to the club’s media post-match. On being being happy with three points: “We can drop ourselves in it that’s for sure, but I have to say if you’re going to come out on top what a game.

There was attacking intent form both sides from the start. Certainly, when they got it, they countered against us pretty well, but we can’t be giving goals away like that if that’s the only downside.

We have to try and get some consistency as soon as we can, but I’m happy with the three points and the performance.”

The attacking play in the game…

“Some of the attacking play was unbelievable and we’ve made them have to defend really well and they have done that, and the goalkeeper has made some brilliant saves.”

Haji Wright’s opener…

“The first goal, it was an unbelievable cross and Haji has attacked it brilliantly and he set the tone tonight with his first sprint and if he does that, he is unplayable.

Some of the pace and power on the pitch was a joy to behold and that’s exactly what we’ve tried to put into the squad.”

Milan’s goal…

“The second goal was incredible and some of the football was incredible and for Tatsu to leave it for Milan and the finish from Milan was unbelievable.

They (Tatsu and Milan) were brilliant and the cross that Milan put in for Haji was on the money and they were doing it all night.

But we can talk about the whole team in terms of the control we took from the start of the game we were really good.

It was a really good performance to start the home campaign, but the downside is the two goals, but if at the end of the season we win all our games 3-2, the fans would have been treated to an incredible home season.”

The winning goal…

“The third goal right at the death was the perfect way to end the game for us, and we’ve had to work hard for it.

He was really alive to the pass that went astray and had the presence of mind to go round the goalkeeper and finish it into an empty net.

I’ve said it before this might be the year I have a heart attack that’s for sure.”

Oxford’s Des Buckingham said via Sky Sports: “I just said to the players I can’t ask for much more than them. I think It shows how far we have come in a very short space of time as a club.

“I think it was a mistake at the end of the game, right at the end of the game, but I couldn’t ask much more. We have played three games in six days, and to put in the performances we have over those three games, I am very happy with that.

“Obviously, I’m a little frustrated not to come away with something because we feel we did enough to do that, but football can be a cruel game.

“We have come a long, long way in a short space of time as long as we can perform like we did in the last two league games we’ll put ourselves in a good spot. If we lose games we’ll lose them playing our way and if we win games we’ll win them playing our way.”

As mentioned, Coventry fans slam Oxford’s Placheta for ‘trying to take Milan Van Ewijk’s head off’ and the officials for missing it…

@timdavis87: This was obvious to everyone bar the officials last night. Surely the @EFL will take retrospective action

@lee_beckett: @FA_PGMOL this sort of stuff shouldn’t be happening in the modern game, disgusting behaviour

@MattGSBA: About as good at landing punches as he is playing football 😂 Got abused for 90mins

@masccfc: stupid rat cunt. how the fuck has the assistant not seen that

@adam_carvell: Milan had the last laugh 🤭

@RyanHeatly: Twice no less.

@RoryDaviesCCFC: The linesman on that side was absolutely dreadful. Officials are a joke

@stevedarney: Six of one and half a dozen of the other … first wing is the worst as that’s near enough a punch. Second one is just an aggressive swipe.

@daddyd0ug: @FA_PGMOL get looking into this lads.

@KDCaccounting: Lineman is bloody joke. How do you miss that

@robtinning: @OUFCOfficial disgrace.

@mickccfc1968: Simply a player thats not good enough for this standard and results to 1970’s style aggression to fool his manager and team mates he contributes something. That’s a red card in today’s game.

@GeorgeSmithCov: Disgraceful. Officials aren’t fit for purpose @FAspokesperson @FA_PGMOL

@_cobibudge: The standard of officiating in this country is on the floor.

@CCFCJM89: These always get missed against us!!!

@jamescrossan8: The linesman on this side was absolutely shocking, never witnessed an official get absolutely everything wrong 😅 #PUSB

@Coventrian7: Tried to get him twice!

@BWaddington: Should be banned for this @EFL

@CalcioOUFC: This isn’t great from the assistant referee.

@lucadiamandiss: This needs to be looked into immediately, You do that anywhere the outcome results in arrest? No change just because it’s on a Football pitch.

@SiCooperCoach: Man had 2 swings 😂

@pidg89: That lino was fucking useless last night. They might as well not be there 😂

@jackdrinkwater5: Gotta be a three match ban incoming for him @FA_PGMOL #PUSB

@scxttesx: Happened right in front of me. How the lino and ref both missed it I have no idea #PUSB

@jamescrossan8: The linesman on this side was absolutely shocking, never witnessed an official get absolutely everything wrong 😅 #PUSB
