Coventry fan spotted fighting with own family members in stand mid-game

A male Coventry City fan was spotted fighting with some of his own family members in the stand mid-game as his side lost against Millwall.

The moment was captured on camera by fans, with stewards having to intervene before one of members of staff gets knocked over whilst trying to deal with the situation.

The home fans behind them can be seen trying to watch the game, but can’t help but be distracted with what was playing out beside them.

It would seem that his son if trying to calm his Father down, but he is having none of it with what is alleged to be his wife clearly embarrassed by the ordeal.

She moves up a row, whilst the young lad tries to drag him up the steps out of everyone’s way, then it turns into some sort of wrestling match.

The Dad and son are grabbling each other, with the elder putting more force into it and puts in some swings in an attempt to hurt.

The Dad ends up falling back into a seat behind him, then other supporters who had watched this go on, decided to get up and help move him away.

He is taken up the steps and back into the concourse with some fans a fair few feet away sing “cheerio” before getting back to watching the game.

The game was settled with just one goal, coming from Tom Bradshaw who hit home his fourth goal in as many games as a depleted Millwall earned an unlikely victory at Coventry.

The EFL had denied the Lions’ request for the match to be postponed and turned up with just 15 senior players available.

Boss Gary Rowett filled his bench with Under-23 players Nana Boateng and Besart Topalloj and 15-year-old striker Zak Lovelace.

After a quiet opening 20 minutes, which saw Millwall enjoy almost 60% possession, Coventry midfielder Callum O’Hare looked the likeliest player to create an opening and found Walker, but the striker was unable to adjust his feet and get a shot away.

It was ex-Aston Villa midfielder who had Coventry’s best chance of the match after 21 minutes, when a ball came his way inside the penalty area but his half-volley was straight at Lions goalkeeper Bartosz BiaÅ€kowski.

From the resulting corner, Michael Rose’s header was cleared off the line before Dom Hyam’s acrobatic effort cleared the crossbar.

Walker was next to go close for Coventry as his improvised header from O’Hare’s cross also cleared BiaÅ€kowski’s goal.

Mark Robins’ side had claims for a penalty waved away by referee Geoff Eltringham in the 70th minute before Bradshaw poked home the winner inside the six-yard box after Jake Cooper flicked on Alex Pearce’s free-kick.

It was just Millwall’s second shot on target of the night after they had thwarted a Coventry side that had lost just twice in nine outings.

Referee Eltringham waved away another penalty claim with 10 minutes remaining before Ian Maatsen fired over to condemn the Sky Blues to their third home defeat of the season, sitting 10th in the Championship table following an impressive start.

What the managers said…

Coventry’s Mark Robins: “It’s a nightmare, it’s not much fun at all at the moment. We’ve been suffering just like everybody else, I’ve had half a squad for 10 days. It’s difficult to plan, they’ve obviously got a cause because they’ve tried to get the game cancelled because they’ve got some issues, but we’ve all got issues going on.

“It’s been off, it’s been on, yesterday Millwall said it was off, then the EFL said no it’s on. From that point on it’s been on but that’s the situation we’re dealing with. I’ve got to be honest because that level of performance was expected. They gave everything that they could do and ran out of legs. The quality wasn’t quite there because of the lack of training and cohesion.”

Millwall’s Gary Rowett: “Incredible. All through it, the players wanted to play the game but we didn’t feel we reached the protocols of the EFL which was 14 fit players but a goalkeeper can count as an outfield player on the bench which seems a bit bizarre.

“We had two players on the bench that hadn’t changed but it’s times like that you’ve got to show a bit of spirit and the players showed incredible fight and spirit. I thought there were good bits of play, I wouldn’t say we were comfortable but I thought our shape was good and I didn’t think Coventry created too much.”
