Swindon Town goalkeeper Connor Ripley found an old-school answer to the sunshine at the County Ground — borrowing Ian Holloway’s flat cap.
The unusual headwear caught the attention of fans after Sky Bet League Two shared footage of Ripley wearing his manager’s hat on Saturday.
The league’s official account explained that Ripley had no cap of his own available and had to turn to Holloway’s wardrobe. Reporter Sam Morshead also posted from the County Ground, saying the sun was in the goalkeeper’s eyes and that no baseball caps were immediately available.
Morshead later clarified that Ripley had a regular cap within two minutes, making the flat-cap appearance a brief but memorable stopgap.
That left the Swindon keeper with a rather distinctive solution, and supporters were quick to enjoy the sight.
Fans react to Connor Ripley’s flat cap
There was plenty of appreciation for the throwback look in replies to the league’s video, alongside one very practical suggestion.
@AdrianPym wrote: “Someone could have gone and got a cap from the club shop”.
@Soapy777 offered a one-word comparison: “Yashin”.
@vsebudeirlandii declared: “Game’s back”.
@worktakingthep added: “Revival of an old school trend🍬”.
A missing baseball cap might have caused a small problem for Ripley, but Holloway’s alternative certainly gave supporters something to smile about.
