Concerning statement issued by Taunton over their current financial situation

A concerning statement has been issued by Taunton Town over their current financial situation and the amount of games they’ve had postponed.

The club are back on the brink as they are concede that another HMRC winding-up petition is inevitable with bad weather and poor pitch conditions meaning that their income hasn’t covered their costs.

They had to postpone their last five consecutive home fixtures in the National League South and now have a backlog of games to play with time running out in which to play them in.

Taunton Town has now taken a serious stance by issuing a warning, urging supporters to show their utmost support to the club as it navigates through significant financial challenges.

The club’s management has expressed their inability to fulfil their commitment to HMRC, resulting in another winding up order and a league transfer embargo for the second time this year, which they claim is likely to be coming their way.

Furthermore, it has been disclosed that the players of Peacocks have not received their full salary for February, and other staff members have not been paid at all.

CLUB STATEMENT:

“The number of home games postponed due the volume of rain these past weeks has only deepened the financial challenges the club is experiencing.

“As a result, the club has been unable to meet its salary commitments for February (payment due on the 5th March 2024).

“Using the small amount of income the club has received in February, it has agreed with the players to pay an affordable percentage of their expected sum.

“The difference will be paid as soon as the club is able to. The remainder of the club staffing team have unfortunately not been paid.

“Disappointingly the lack of income does mean that the club is unable to meet its HMRC commitment.

“Having already exhausted payment plan options with the Revenue, another winding up order and league transfer embargo could be unavoidable.

“The club will endeavour to continue to provide updates on the situation when we can.

“Tickets for the remaining home games can be purchased online via the club website.

“Doing so in advance would significantly assist the club in this challenging time.

“Further to this, tickets are now available for the exhibition match between Manchester United Legends vs Taunton Town Legends on 19th May. Your support will be greatly appreciated.”

This is how fans reacted to the concerning statement issued by Taunton over their current financial situation…

@sainthelski: ๐Ÿ˜ข my heart goes out to non-league teams in this position when football at the top is just a business now. Had this years ago with my club but luckily we survived. ๐Ÿคž

@theexmouthchef: Feel very sorry for Taunton. If you canโ€™t play games you canโ€™t raise revenue and subsequently you canโ€™t pay wages and other obligations. It seems the pitch has only recently become an issue. I doubt this could have been foreseen. I hope genuine supporters rally round

@tictak72: Maybe release a season ticket for the remaining games to play include the man utd game or not depending on what’s most popular that might help generate some money if it’s a good deal?

@cameron_pickard: Fingers crossed they manage to sort this

@JohnAOakes: Tough situation and not one which I would wish on anyone, even if plenty of Peacocks fans are twats. Ground share at Tivvy? Key is getting the games on and making it to end of the season

@tuckerb93: Time to resign from the National League South. The situation with your pitch is beyond farcical. Some sympathy for the situation, but if the pitch isn’t playable, surely you could at least try to switch the remaining matches to alternative venues to get the matches played

@justafan1m: Taunton Townโ€™s woes continue. Never nice to see a club in this state. Whilst the constant fixture postponements are understandably frustrating, thereโ€™s really not a lot they can do. Hopefully they pull out of this. That said, I really canโ€™t see them staying in the NLS.

@Dafydd_Nich: Taunton in the mud again then

@thelittleowl11: Feel incredibly sorry for Taunton Town FC. Anyone nearby please try and get to their games to boost the income.

@AlexReddick: Itโ€™s a mess. Simply not having a home game for 4 weeks hasnโ€™t helped plus the football being played isnโ€™t exactly appealing. So many oversights when the club got promoted itโ€™s a real shame

@Love_non_league: Another club requiring assistance ๐Ÿฅน
