They wrote: “The club will now play its football at step 7 in the Herefordshire County Premier Division.

“It is a time in our journey where we need to re assess what and where we are going, and the decision was made that we could not go any further with the current squad we had in the Hellenic League Div 1 West.

“We have now with drawn from that league having tasted and enjoyed their football and it is the clubs choice to do this.

“There are plans if approved that we resurrect a Wellington Colts team as our second team and we will post the progress of this in due course.

“We will still be competitive and still be difficult to beat. We are looking forward to our next challenge.”

– STATEMENT ENDS –

While they haven’t given any mention on the FA Vase, it is now expected that they will not take part in it, and it could mean a bye for Midland League Division One outfit Nuneaton Griff.

The First Qualifying Round gets underway on Saturday the 11th of September 2021 , and Wellington aren’t the only team who won’t be taking part.

There is a walkover for South Liverpool with FC St Helens not accepted into the competition.

Another walkover sees Bilston Town advance through as Wem Town are not accepted into the competition

May & Baker have been handed a walkover with Sudbury Sports not accepted into the competition.

And for the Second Qualifying Round, there is a walkover for Campion or Newton Aycliffe with Boro Rangers not accepted either.

Fans reacted as the club resigns from their league and pulls out of the FA Vase…

Andy Cloxton: Whatever is best for the club….

Mike Fischer: So sad to read this ,a great family club. Been a supporter/ club Media officer over 20 yrs, following them all over the Midlands. Good luck in the reset and come back bigger and stronger in the near future. The Tangerine Army!! Come on Welly!!

Shaun Rogers: Such a shame that have had to withdrawal from the Hellenic league.. Wishing you all best in for the coming season and hopefully won’t be long until back in the higher leagues.

Richie Davies: Great club and have the support again next season from R.A.D Carpentry good luck 🤞

Clive Harris: Luke Johnston football goes around in circles hope the good times come back soon for Wellington Football Club

Sarumio Whites: What a strange statement. They cant go any further with the current squad – what does that mean? They weren’t struggling in any way on the pitch. if this had been Tytherington Rocks I’d have understood. And then they say they the club is in a solid place, financially, with an envious ground. So why would they drop to the Herefordshire League? Their choice and its respected…. but seems very odd!

Jason Lee: Rather sad to see yet more teams having to exit their league as well as the FA Vase, for many it would have been their first time. Really hope they can get themselves back and the future looks bright for them

Andy Fowler: Really gutted to hear this, but sometimes you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do, fingers crossed!

Paul Colson: Wishing Wellington all the best, great little club, can’t wait to go visit them again at some point next season

Robbie Wainwright: Quite a blow for the club and it’s fans, but I’d like to think they’ll be back when able to

Ian Duncan: That’s now four or so clubs who can’t take part in the FA Vase, and I really don’t want to put a dampener on it but I can see many more having to leave the competition, gutting to see
