City of Liverpool condemn vile abuse chants allegedly sung by Prescot Cables fans towards the opposition’s manager and his family.
The Northern Premier League West Division clash played out in front of a bumper crowd on Friday night, with it finishing in a 1-1 draw.
Kyle Sambor broke the deadlock 33 minutes into the derby, and Prescot looked to be claiming all three points, until Peter Wylie struck a late equaliser in the 88th minute to snatch a point for City of Liverpool.

1,348 was the attendance for the game at the Joseph Russell Stadium, and while majority behaved, the game was unfortunately marred by a minority.
City of Liverpool tweeted after the game: “Honours even on the pitch, total dishonour off the pitch as group of @PrescotCablesFC fans repeatedly chant vile abuse about Paul McNally & his wife, in front of their children and also threatened oldest so when confronted.
“Shame on them and any supporter who didn’t intervene.”
When one fan replied “Do you not fancy mentioning what your player was saying to our fans in the second half?”, the club again said: “Well shut up then. There’s man to man abuse, that’s NL football. Singing sexually explicit songs about a man’s wife, in front of his wife and children? Shameful. The song was much, much worse than “slag” it was sexually explicit…”

City of Liverpool FC In The Community wrote: “Football stadiums should be a safe space for women to attend without worrying about vile abuse.
“The supporters of @PrescotCablesFC and their threats and verbal abuse towards our managers wife shows there is still a long way to go, horrifying. #womensfootball”
Meanwhile, we also saw a number of fans on the pitch with stewards attempting to catch the culprits, however the invaders were just too quick for them.
Take a look at the video below, which has had over 8,000 views since being published onto Twitter on Friday night.
This is how fans reacted as City of Liverpool condemn the vile abuse chants by Prescot Cables fans towards the opposition manager and his family…
@davestanleylfc: Awful that to such nice people as well, some nastiness really creeping into none league – absolutely no need for it hopefully they can identify and take action against those responsible
@the_no: Why does non league attract these attention-deprived no-marks?
@mr_shead: What about the reaction from the manager sticking 2 fingers up, swearing and calling everyone a Fucking queer when they equalised, also his wife repeatedly calling people a C U Next Tuesday and wanting to kick off
@amandamanning8: You do realise her 16 year old son was confronted by fans calling his dad a nonce ? Your older fans apologised for them !

@KataMattyon: Goes without saying but please let the McNally family know that the purps who were at the game are absolutely horrified by this. Was meant to be a good day out (regardless of result), and it was exciting seeing such a high turnout – it’s sad that things like this ruin things
@APATBillShep: And the dodgy gate practices that went on last night..
@DouseGeoff: So often the case. The few ruining it for the majority. Regrettably happens too often.
@PeteBudha: So sorry to hear this its absolutely disgusting for fans to chant that has nothing to do with football or your team. To personalise and discriminate someone of the opposing team and his family is beyond redemption.
@CollyRetro: Fkn hell. Sounds like a well attended, good football match almost ruined by a few gobshites. Shame on them
@amandamanning8: There is always the few who ruin it for others . I met some really old school supporters at the game tonight. Then there is just wronguns who spoil it for everyone . No excuse for this nor confronting an upset 16 year old citing their dad as a nonce !! Banter is not this !!
@JonesCaleb97: Knowing Macca, he would happily take stick, footy is banter, it’s boss for non league, and then you get blurts who take it too far. Start bringing family and that into it you need a good hiding. Some mad virgins who sit and watch this non league footy yeno, it’s madness 🙈🙈
@_JRE5_: Glass houses n tha
@colfcrepublic: Misogynistic @PrescotCablesFC fans chanting vile abuse at the managers wife and threatening his children 👇
@sam_partisan: They are shite on the pitch and even fucking worse off the pitch. Not one of their own fans speaking up and saying a word to stop it. Gang of bastards the lot of them
Prescot Cables manager Kevin Lynch said he was disappointed as City of Liverpool captain Peter Wylie denied his side a win late on.
“Disappointed if I’m honest,” Lynch admitted to Off The Park. “I thought to concede to so late on, a set-piece something that we’d been working on, we knew they were dangerous from, we give them tasks.
“The changes led to personnel changing with them, lead to the goal. On reflection, disappointing.
“We have been creating, the standard of football has been good, I just think it needs to turn, we need to keep the belief. Keep what we’re doing, keep the belief and I’m sure it’ll turn and we’ll soon get the three points.
“Definitely [two points dropped] gutted, but that’s what football’s about and sometimes you don’t get your rewards, bitterly disappointed.
“It was difficult at times, difficult conditions but I think the crowd were unbelievable, great attendance – got behind the team – I commend them.”
