Chelsea draw up managerial shortlist with Liam Rosenior sacked

Chelsea draw up a managerial shortlist with Liam Rosenior sacked following a 3-0 defeat by Brighton on Tuesday night.

In the report by Mark Douglas of The I Paper., the likes of Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva have been named as ‘PL-ready options for the summer’.

Filipe Luis is admired by the Blues, but experience is what Chelsea will be looking at next and need, Cesc Fabregas is thought to be an ‘obvious choice’.

Edin Terzic is another name said to be on the shortlist, as per @RMCsport.

The club spent the day “considering their options” regarding the future of Rosenior as Chelsea head coach, with the latest result damaging Champions League hopes.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Liam Rosenior.

On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season.

This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future.

Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season with support from existing Club backroom staff, as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup.

As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment.

BBC Sport meanwhile have said that a number of Chelsea players are understood to be ‘unconvinced’ by Rosenior following their worst run of league form for 114 years.

And while he received backing by the hierarchy last week, sources have told BBC Sport that ‘none was forthcoming’ on Wednesday, with the players having a day off and discussion being had by the club’s leadership into whether a change is needed.

@Matt_Law_DT wrote: There is recognition that Chelsea cannot bring in another coaching team with no top-level experience and the search for Liam Rosenior’s successor is expected to centre around finding a candidate who has proved they could cope with the demands of a big club and the PL.

@guardian_sport however say: ” There is sympathy within Chelsea for Liam Rosenior’s plight. He has not had a pre-season and was without Palmer, James, Pedro, Estêvão, Colwill and Gittens at Brighton. There is a view that Rosenior has inherited a difficult situation and there are figures within Chelsea who have been desperate for him to succeed.”

Footy Insider claim: “Chelsea are keen to give Liam Rosenior more time to steady the ship despite a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat on Tuesday night, but would consider appointing both Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis.”

Here’s what fans are saying as Chelsea draw up a managerial shortlist with Liam Rosenoir sacked…

@CFCMaka:
My shortlist:
🔹 Julian Nagelsmann
🔹 Xabi Alonso
🔹 Andoni Iraola
🔹 Enzo Maresca
🔹 Cesc Fabregas
🔹 Luis Enrique
A change in direction, and assurances over transfer control amongst others will increase the chances of a top manager even without UCL.

@NichoLizzy: Felipe Luis, Sebastian Hoeness, Andoni Iraola & Cesc Fabregas should be Chelsea’ manager shortlist when Rosenior is gone. #CFC

@GoldbergCFC: He was awful and needed to go but nothing changes if nothing changes. We’ll be doing this again in 6 months time.

@_JoeAlexanderr: Iraola doesn’t make sense because the squad CANT RUN. They’re not good at the ‘hey let’s up tempo and intensity for second balls’. The squad is built to play slow, hence why there’s no second gear. Terzic is going to last 8 games max.

@Gracie_Blue89: WHAT IS HAPPENNING HERE?? No!! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!! No more mediocre managers, I am so sick of this. Sack the board or this will keep happening. State of my club 😢💙

@Rhysjh97: Penny has finally dropped, toxicity around the club making them change approach, on their last legs now 👍

@Hennez_hof: Fabregas, Mourinho, Alonso. The list goes on. Literally anyone please.

@KevinGlenroyd: Who, in their right mind, gives a football coach an 8-year contact in the current environment. Absolutely bananas! @ChelseaFC #MoneyForOldRope

@matkinsj: It doesn’t matter. The whole squad is overrun with petulant crybabies

@SammyRochford57: John Terry as interim till the end of the season and then get Iraola in the summer and have Terry on the coaching staff 🙏🏼

@CFCPys: Nothing changes unless Behdad and SD’s change the model and management approach.

@CarefreeLewisG: Bring back Enzo Maresca and apologise to him if you have any shame left

@OllieGlanvill: “As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment.”

@CFCDaily: Sporting directors next please

@willreyner: No hard feelings Liam. Did his best. Should never have been hired in the first place. Now SACK the people that have made yet another horrific managerial decision. Blueco OUT. Winstanley, Shields and Stewart OUT

@CFCUruguay: I feel sorry for Rosenior because he was doing a great job in Strasbourg. You brought him to this club knowing that he was a basic coach for a half-table team. Chelsea is a big club. You need a suitable technician.

@kevinhatchard: A total mess. Disrupted Strasbourg’s season (although Gary O’Neil has done well since), and have brought ridicule upon a young coach who was doing well before this debacle.
