Celtic and Rangers fans surprisingly adopt two separate English non league clubs this week following a Deadline Day transfer.
Southend-based amateur club Catholic United have seen a welcome boost of up to 10,000 new Twitter followers thanks to Celtic fans showing their support to Cameron Carter-Vickers.
The Essex-based outfit was where the player took his first steps in football before moving to Tottenham at the age of nine.
The defender has joined Celtic on loan but as @CatholicUtdFC confirmed it will not be the first time he’s played in green and white hoops https://t.co/EIRXuxkuzf

Catholic United tweeted a message of support after he made his 11th hour loan move, which went on to be a big hit with Hoops fans.
the Essex Olympian League Premier Division club’s Twitter followers rose from 1,400 to over 11,000 in the space of 24 hours and as of writing this article, is on course to reach 15,000, very impressive, and maybe we could just see them make a trip to watch them in action this season.
Catholic United wrote: “So pleased to see @cameroncv2 move from @SpursOfficial to @CelticFC tonight.
“A youth player for @CatholicUtdFC up until 2009 when he joined Tottenham.”

Interestingly, it turns out Carter-Vickers isn’t the only connection between the two clubs, with Catholic United adorning green and white Hoops since being gifted a set of Celtic’s strips back in the 1950s.
They wrote on social media: “Huge thankyou to all of our new followers from @CelticFC.
“An absolutely crazy few hours and we’ve done it. We have the history, we have the heritage and now we have your support too.
“Thank you from all at Catholic United.”
A huge thank you to all of our new followers. We had no idea a little tweet would have such a positive impact, with many not knowing we existed as a football club.
Appreciate your support and interactions and hopefully we’ll continue to do our colours proud.

They weren’t the only Essex-based side getting a huge boost in followers online with another Southend-based side, White Ensign FC, reaching out to Rangers fans.
They tweeted: “Since @CatholicUtdFC have partnered up with @CelticFC fans because of their colours…
“Hey Rangers fans, do you like our badge and colours? @RangersFC @Allthingsgers.”
And the tweet also proved to be popular, with White Ensign FC and their red, white and blue colours being followed by almost 5,000 fans by late on Wednesday. As of Thursday morning, it’s gone up to nearly 8,000.
Celtic gave us our first kit back in the 50’s…..longer history with them than people realise!! 😉👍

Twitter users reacted as Celtic and Rangers fans adopt English non league clubs…
@becalmfollowon: Love the pettiness here. It’s something I can get right behind.
@NonLeagueGuys: This is quality from @RangersFC @CelticFC @WhiteEnsignFC and @CatholicUtdFC. Top support from the fans. Extra support, exposure and love for some Non League clubs. Watched both there followers fly up, great stuff

@alexoleary91: Get it trending all #essexoldfirm
@Stephen4_2: I really hope Cameron Carter Vickers hits at off at Celtic. The story about Sir Robert Kelly sending Catholic United a set of Celtic strips in 1968 after they asked for permission to use Celtic’s colours was amusing and heart warming. A real sign of humility old Bob had as a man.
@CelticNation67: That’s a follow from me too… God bless folks👍🍀⚽️
@krys1888: Think the winners of the transfer window are definitely Catholic United who probably now have stock issues with the number of Celtic fans who now know they exist.
@Greg_Bremner: Will follow you with support and interest. Wishing your club the very best of everything
@Johnwhi99361188: This club is a nice wee find,good luck for the coming season will be keeping an eye on how well yous are doing 👍
@TheLaughterBoy: I think a lot of people in Glasgow will be adopting “Catholic United” as their new “wee team”.
@bhoy_al: Announce a pre season friendly at Celtic Park.
@618rjw: WTF!! You’ve existed and I’ve never heard about you. Man I love you. Get ready for the Celtic support to embrace your club.
@EL_Padrino67: Instant follow lads mon the hoops 🙏💚🍀
@addywicks: Mon the Ensign 🇬🇧
@DrCrazyLong: Ensign Loyal 🇬🇧
@johnrw1979: Just seen some ensign football club pull their pants down for rangers fans after the CCV signing as he played for Catholic United or whatever, going to end in tears this Hahaha
@alexsalmon17: What’s gonna be ledge is when the fans having a sing off at ibrox/Celtic park signing catholic or ensign songs at each other. 🤣👏🏻
@JaneyBears1912: Jesus Christ lads 😂 you’re going to end up causing world war 3 in Glasgow 😂
