CCTV footage being viewed after Hyde and Ashton fans clash at cup final

CCTV footage is currently being viewed after Hyde and Ashton United fans took to clash each other at a non league cup final this week.

Monday night saw Ashton come out on top in the encounter of The Frank Hannah Cup (aka Manchester Premier Cup), but a Hyde fan decided to run into a group of Ashton fans at full time.

Ashton boss Michael Clegg praised the intervention of the players from both sides, after they had assisted stewards, and tried to prevent it from getting worse at FC United of Manchester’s Broadhurst Park.

“What both sets of players did in uniting to split up those causing trouble was commendable,” he said.

“Emotions were running high at the end of the game, but the players stopped it before it really started. It showed what a good bunch the players from both clubs are.”

FC United are reported to being looking into CCTV footage to find the culprit who went on to the pitch at the final whistle and then go into the stand looking for a fight which came in the corner of the ground between the main stand and the large terrace behind the goal.

Hyde United chairman Steve Hartley wants to take action if any of their supporters are identified as being involved.

He said: “We don’t condone what happened which we don’t need at whatever level of football.

“I don’t what caused it to kick off but, if any action is needed, we will take it.”

Steve Hartley adds that he spoke to FC United officials who are looking at CCTV footage to establish the cause of the trouble and identify and perpetrators.

“It is all speculation until FC United come back with their observations, after which we will see what action to take.”

Paul Roots, football services manager at the Manchester FA, criticised those who went looking for trouble.

He said: “Manchester FA does in no way condone the behaviour of a select few visiting spectators who were by far in the minority on an otherwise incredibly successful night for those involved.

“We noted that the disturbance was started by a single individual who ran across the field of play at the final whistle and will work with the clubs to identify that individual and any others that became involved.

“Manchester FA worked with the host club to provide suitable stewarding provision along with intelligence provided by the clubs and it as deemed that no formal segregation would be required for this fixture.

“The incident itself was swiftly dealt with by the stewarding team and Manchester FA staff who were in the immediate vicinity before the medal and trophy presentations commenced.

“The official attendance for the fixture was 963 and Manchester FA would like to thank the vast majority of these supporters who attended and acted responsibly throughout their visit.”

Social media users reacted with CCTV footage being viewed after Hyde and Ashton fans clash at the cup final…

Rich Teale: Hyde are well known for this , a few years ago they started trouble at an fa cup tie at Scarborough and because they came second best they have continually had ago at Scarborough fans on the NPL page

Tony Brown: Ah, the English working classes take their leisure, drinking and fighting. Twas ever thus and will always be.

Alan Gee: Life ban the muppet. Not sure why the players have to pile in as they could be booked after the final whistle, too.

Laurence Chapman: What a let down. Embarrassing and humiliating. Rest of the world see this, and laugh at us.

Gordon Lindsay: All involved need banned for life, not real fans.

Daniel Storey: He needs to lay off the skittles FFS 😂😂

Michael Graham: The fan that started that needs banning for life and charged by the police. Disgraceful and embarrassing.

Terry Bohane: Player needs to be banned 4 life punching a fan great example to show young kids

Graham Walls: What on earth was he thinking of, when he ran across the pitch ?. I have been to both of them & never saw any fan misbehave @ either of them. Utter stupidity from him. Could have got real nasty.

Adam Liam Sowter: Letting the club down, shame

Garry O’Brien: Wait until there’s a knock on the front door at 7am from the police in three months 😂

Ben Rowles: Most hyde fans running had to stop it from escalating it wasn’t much except from a few fans at the front. Was a decent game tho no need for the stuff at the end at all

David Hills-Taylor: Why were all those other idiots running after him? Stay off the halves of shandy next time. I have footage also if anyone needs to identify anyone. Shame as apart from that I thought the atmosphere was really good and Ashton deserved the win.

Jamie Smith: Runs across the park, unnoticed. Jumps the fence unnoticed, so what does he do with this glorious opportunity to have it out with who ever he wants? That’s right, he throws himself into the only steward in sight. 😂😂😂
