CBeebies’s Mister Maker helps Gillingham with a unique reveal as their new third kit gets a mixed reaction on social media.
The children’s TV presenter, real name Phil Gallagher, has linked up with Gillingham FC, his boyhood club, recreating the swirling purple and lilac patterns which feature on the new shirt.
Fair to say it is one of those kits you either love it or hate it, getting plenty of reaction online, third kits these days usually are rather arty and out there. This is certainly that.

In the video, he said: “Hello and welcome to a very special, exclusive mini episode of Mr Maker from the home of Gillingham Football Club in Kent.
“Now I’ve been a fan of football and of the mighty Gills since I was very young. In fact, here’s a photo of me back in the 1980s. It seems like yesterday.
“I loved watching Gillingham then and still do today. I feel lucky to have so many Gills memories home and away. Most of them happy, cherished times that I’ll remember forever.
“Being here and being part of this football family means the world to me and it’s just given me a great arty idea.
“This is my marvellous making table and these are the materials we’re going to use today.
“A tray, paper, paintbrushes, paint and a marble or small ball. Put your paper in a tray and carefully squeeze poster paint out of the bottle.
“Use a brush and get creative. You could even use the other end of a brush to make thin lines. Take your ball or marble and roll it across the paper and through the paint.
“This lilac paint looks great against the darker paper. Now leave it to dry. You can try this idea with any colours you like but I would recommend this lovely lilac idea.
“Why don’t you try it and I wonder if this gives Gillingham Football Club their own arty idea, making things, keep being creative and keep supporting your favourite football team. Lots of love and most importantly, up the Gills!”
Gillingham have also unveiled their home and away kits, take a look at them below…

Fans had their say after CBeebies’s Mister Maker helps Gillingham with a unique reveal as the new kit gets mixed reaction…
@Dee_WkdCreative: Shut up and take my money!!!!
@louisgills: I like this one. 1st and 3rd kit for me.
@alexxx0207: Not sure I’ll ever see a better kit reveal 🤣🤣
@mgingles79: Safe to say I’ll only be buying the home shirt this year. I just hope the recruitment team does a better job than commercial, otherwise we are going to be extremely disappointed
@jamesc1988gfc: Appreciate this is aimed at the younger generation, but christ, everything about that kit is awful 🤦♂️
@FBLowdown: Certainly didn’t have Mister Maker doing a kit launch on my bingo card today… it’s a lovely effort though. 👏👏 #Gills
@The_Kit_Parade: Much rather see a kit launch not taking itself too seriously than the usual AI marketing script about how the design is inspired by something from history etc! Not sure about the shirt itself though!
@Champ_GFC74: So, I like the home and this kit. Not keen on the 1st away kit, so for me in the words of meatloaf, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad 👍
@alancollinspdb: 9/10 for launch video. 10/10 for involving Mister Maker. 8/10 for kit design. Feel like I’m going to be in a minority, but I actually prefer this to the away shirt. Just need to finish paying off my season ticket before I can buy them. Hope they’ve ordered enough this time…
@JamesH0403: I actually really like that – why’s that not our away one 🤣
@BUNF28: The best kit reveal ever, bar none
@sg_miner21: The kit is awful but cannot be mad at a kit reveal video with cbeebies’ finest 😅
@1893_gfc: Is Mister Maker fucking blind?
@UKTAGyt: I didn’t think it could get worse than last season’s orange/purple one… How I underestimated things…
@tomesenoglu: Not sure what’s worse the video or the kit..
@SirSebastian20: I felt like I was 5 years old again watching this 😂😂.
@bigev84: Best one for me 🫶🏻
@TheME7Podcast:
Whatever you think about this video announcement and the kit design that followed it, you can’t deny it’s had the desired effect.
Increased engagement ✅
Appeals to the younger market ✅
Some of the older folks like it too ✅
Am I that fussed by the third kit? Nope. Will it still sell well? Of course.
The club have gone bold with this one! #Gills
@Deutsch_Gills: 2/3 for me this kits this season. I am currently struggling to like this kit. Must say though, the video here with MisterMaker is nice. Maybe it’ll grow on me, but there’s a real strive to be different this season (not a complaint; club’s trying to really stand out). #Gills #GFC
@Darren_Chandler: Yep I’ll have some of that. Up The #Gills!
