Calamitous defending from Millwall as they gift Blackburn much needed three points

There was calamitous defending from Millwall as they gift Blackburn a much needed three points, in the Championship on Saturday.

It took just 3 minutes for the hosts to go ahead, Matty Litherland received the ball from Ryoya Morishita and saw a shot parried, but Andri Gudjohnsen was on hand to fire home the rebound.

Then on the verge of half time, Rovers went 2-0 up. A mix up in the Millwall defence saw Dan McNamara attempt to head back to Crocombe, who had come out to collect, but the ball bobbled towards the empty net, Yuki Ohashi chased to tap in on the line.

Blackburn boss Valerien Ismael told BBC Radio Lancashire:

“It’s always important to get the three points and we spoke about that during the week. We know that 2025 has been a tough year at home.

“We’ve always kept going and we came into this game with a big desire, to play more forward and to be on the front foot.

“We had a little bit of luck with the second goal, but when you put pressure on the back four, you force the mistake.

“The second half was all about staying stable and I though the boys did that perfectly. I never had the feeling that Millwall would come back into the game.

“We gave some debuts to the academy boys, so I think it was a great day for Blackburn Rovers.”

Millwall boss Alex Neil told BBC Radio London:

“That was arguably as poor as it’s been. I don’t think we competed well enough. Our decision making with the ball and without the ball was arguably as poor as it’s been.

“If you look at both goals, the first goal is extremely disappointing. We spoke about it all week and then the second goal was a mistake from us. That sort of typified the first-half display.

“I’m not focusing on the timing of the goals, I’m focusing on what we put into the match in the first half and I thought that it was substandard compared to what we’re used to doing. That was probably my biggest frustration.

“In the second half, I thought we competed. I thought we lacked quality at times, though. I didn’t think, although we had a bit of pressure and we kept them in there, we didn’t have enough clear-cut opportunities in the game.”

Here’s how fans reacted at the calamitous defending from Millwall as they gift Blackburn a much needed three points…

@SiWall68: Can’t blame that on injuries, blackburn in the same boat. too many soppy cunts who can’t do the basics. Yet again, oppo players look fitter & stronger – 2nd best all over the pitch.

@dacetheace: Can’t blame injury list for this performance defence was piss poor yet again stupid mistakes. No chance of playoffs with performances like this.

@MichaelJ5_: Another tough watch

@Lucas_McGregor: Injuries or not that’s embarrassing

@BenWill06318989: Could play all day and still wouldn’t score, disgusting performance

@JamesWi84409921: Fucking woeful performance by every single one of you zilch effort

@Sam__Bellamy: Not to be over-dramatic but playing McNamara is a sackable offence

@mattjoyy: These lot know they’re paid to play football right?

@James80508550: Lovely. Weekend ruined a couple hours earlier than usual. Cheers boys šŸ‘šŸ»

@swylieeeeee: Really poor from start to finish, give away so many fouls and didn’t look like scoring. Injuries or not that was awful, need reinforcements.

@Matt_MFC_Dawson: Our defence must’ve been Santa’s elves that first half, gifted them 2 goals, couldn’t recover, sloppiness from minute one, poor all round again. We need strength in Jan and we need players fit again, especially CM’s. You can easily tell CDN’s influence is badly missed. #Millwall

@KLC_MFC: Another Alex Neil masterclass away from home. Putting Danny Rb really helped prevent goals didn’t it šŸ˜‚

@dillon1981: Players look burnt out , injuries will cost us this season, midfield is over run every game . Unfortunately this will keep happening until players are back fit.

@TonyEdward12: How Danny Mac is playing championship football is beyond me!

@HughesyGWH: Were they on the lash last night? Embarrassing.

@Lucas_McGregor: What the actual fuck is Danny Mac doing there

@DANTC46: I hope Alex Neill comes out and says “That was an absolute sack of shit”. He needs to look at changes for Ipswich. We need at least 6 players and players in the window and get rid of dead wood. #millwall

@LewisB120: Injuries or not, there is no excuse for that. The players out there were enough to compete with Blackburn, but they chose not to through a lack of effort from some and a lack of footballing ability and intelligence from others. Standard loss at Blackburn. #Millwall

@mattjoyy: Fucking awful 45 that. So many questions to be asked of Alex Neil here. Keep booting the ball up to Miha with no runners off him. Defence a shambles. Cooper having his annual monthly stinker. Neghli effectively making us a player down. Just really bad everywhere. #Millwall

@NickRose_: Embarrassing performance. Injuries or not. Wouldn’t expect to see them goals on a Sunday morning down the local park. Danny Mac showing what we missed when out. Need a big January as we have to many players that are miles off it #millwall

@SPJ91: Utter embarrassment. Sturge nowhere to be seen and Crocombe for the first, Danny & Crocombe for the second. No patterns of play, no real clue on how to score a goal, no nothing. Sympathise with injuries but no excuse for basic errors and a shocking half of football #Millwall

@lionsroar77: I’ve never sad this but @MillwallFC need to be reimbursing supporters back from this performance. Injuries or not these are well paid footballers who can’t pass a fucking football. #Millwall

@JayThomas89: arguably the worst half of football all season. Poor everywhere. Couldn’t care less about our record v Blackburn or the injuries we’ve got a team out there capable of beating or at least going toe to toe with what was 20th in the table and that half is unacceptable #Millwall

@Venom_MFC: Wish we had Jack Howland on the bench. Deserves some minutes and he’d actually give us something going forward #Millwall
