Burnley boss Scott Parker slams ‘very soft’ referee call to rule out goal in draw with West Brom

Burnley boss Scott Parker slams ‘very soft’ referee call to rule out Jaidon Anthony’s goal in the 0-0 draw with West Brom.

The Clarets look to have the ball in the back of the net in the 58th minute, thinking they had taken the lead, but the officials deem there to have been a foul and the goal is ruled out.

Scott Parker says he is ‘disappointed’ that the referee ruled out Anthony’s goal while Jaidon Anthony says he is ‘confused’ after his header against West Brom was ruled out for a foul.

The result leaves Burnley sitting 4th with 24 points from 14 games while West Brom are 5th with 22 point sfrom the same amount of games played.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan told BBC Sport:

“I don’t know how strong or weak the challenge was for the disallowed goal – but it was a clear push.

“We didn’t find the right solutions. We are not finding our best level. In the second half they were better than us.”

Corberan per Sky Sports:

“From my point of view from the bench it was a foul.

“In general as a team we were good in the first half and we created some opportunities.

“In the second half they were better than us until the last third of it. They were more compact than us and we struggled to create chances.”

Burnley boss Scott Parker told BBC Sport:

“The only man who didn’t think that was a goal [Jaidon Anthony’s disallowed effort] was the referee.

“It was very, very soft, but he’s given what he’s given – and it’s gone now.

“I asked for a reaction from the team following a disappointing result on Sunday – and I got that.

“We created chances. Aside from the disallowed goal, we also hit the post and Jeremy Sarmiento missed a one-on-one.”

Parker per Sky Sports:

“I’ve watched it back and it was a goal from my point of view. It’s disappointing obviously that the referee has decided to give that decision.

“There is a little hand, but nothing that’s influenced the player too much. I don’t want to get too involved in it, but it’s a legitimate goal and it’s gone against us today.

“Overall the performance was a lot more positive today than where it has been.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Burnley boss Scott Parker slams the ‘very soft’ referee call to rule out the goal in a draw with West Brom…

@MarkAbel_28: Goal should have stood. Burnley were very unfortunate.

@johnmerrylin: Clear goal. Shocking decision.

@KilbeeMichael: Diabolical decision. I’m a Forest fan but that’s even incensed me!

@ParkersCardigan: Absolutely robbed. As I just read elsewhere, if that’s a foul would the ref give a penalty for the same contact the other way around? Absolutely not. Sky pundits called it what it was – an appalling decision. By all accounts Tom Nield robbed PNE last match as well…

@StuDunkley: Ref should have to answer, would he have given a penalty if it was the other way around?

@steveharvey0203: Never a foul in a million years, the referee is having a mare 😡

@BethxnyMxrtin: The only time shite officiating is acceptable

@sibur_67: As a WBA fan I thought that should have been a goal. Albion were lucky but please no VAR in EFL. It would be a disaster.

@dingjoseph1871: You have been robbed, efl need to fix referees asap

@ShanelongMVP: Lads im a Southampton fan, completely neutral. That is an absolute travesty of a decision

@claretlizzie: file a complaint asap

@bfcwill_: Games so gone 😂😂😂😂😂😂

@Ethan99Con: Sack this ref, he’s absolutely awful.

@Just__Kathryn: Robbed!

@pjbaxi86: Not surprised ref has given them everything all night.

@StephenFtd: By no stretch of the imagination was that a foul.

@Lousims18Louise: He’s put a finger on his back and the ref has disallowed it 😡😡😡
