CLUB STATEMENT:
Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce the arrival of Switzerland international Zeki Amdouni on a five-year-deal from FC Basel for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old striker scored 12 goals in the Swiss Super League last season and was the top scorer in the UEFA Conference League with seven goals.
The Geneva-born attacker made his senior debut for his native country last year, before scoring his first goal for Switzerland in March against Belarus. He followed that up with four more goals in his next three games.
Zeki went on to represent the U21s this summer in the UEFA U21 European Championship where he scored in the quarter-finals against Spain.
After becoming a Claret, Zeki said: “I’m very happy to be here and I’m excited to start.
“The last two months were very important to me; I spoke to the coach, and he really wanted me. Also, I really wanted to work with him, for me that’s the most important. For my career, to choose a good club, where the coach wants you is important to me.
“I know the Premier League is best league in the world. It’s not easy for sure but I am confident with the coach, and the staff, I can do good things here.”
Manager Vincent Kompany added: “He’s been on our radar for quite a while now.
“Zeki is such a goal threat. The way he can play the final pass creates so many assists and thanks to the amount of work he puts in on the pitch – he scores plenty himself.
“He’s a very intelligent footballer, technically gifted and with a great work ethic. He works really hard!
“We’re looking forward to working with him. He’s a big talent.”
Amdouni says in his interview, as per the club website: “I’m very happy to be here and I’m excited to start.
“The last two months were very important to me; I spoke to the coach, and he really wanted me. Also, I really wanted to work with him, for me that’s the most important. For my career, to choose a good club, where the coach wants you is important to me.
“I know it’s the best league in the world. It’s not easy for sure but I am confident and with the coach, and the staff, I can do good things here.
“I think I’m a very calm player, I can play in a lot of forward positions and can score goals for sure.
“I learned a lot with the U21s and before this I was with the A team, and I also scored many goals. I took experience from this, and I hope I can give this here.
“The second part of the season with the national team and also with Basel was really good for me personally. I was confident and it was really good.”
He added: “I like to play PlayStation, I love watching football, I watch a lot of games and also stay with my family, that’s important.
“I don’t have a favourite team in England but for sure I watch the big games but for me in England this is why I love the Premier League. All the games are big games.”
“I watched [Burnley] for sure, when you were in the Championship, I watched two games I think, and I saw the football he [Vincent Kompany] managed was really good. For me, my football, it’s perfect.
“I want to take the most experience from it as possible. To play the game, to learn, and to be a good player here.
“I’m very happy to be here, I’m excited to meet the fans in the stadium.”

Here’s what fans had to say as Burnley amuse fans with a Teletubbies inspired transfer announcement video…
@adeyemifc: this might be my favourite announcement ever
@maggiejane1985: Genuinely hope the Burnley admin and social media team are paraded around the streets and given free pints in every pub they go
@37K37: Literally, the worst player announcement I’ve ever seen…Brilliant 👏
@Jake_Smith90: Marketing team on them same edibles from last summer I love it.
@LeeDForster: At this point, I reckon Burnley’s admin is approximately 98.7% cocaine 🤷♂️
@GeordieClaret: Thought it was going to be Tellatubbies but happy nonetheless
@l16mjv: It’s so bad that it’s actually good 😂👌🏽
@BrexitKompany: That might have been the weirdest one yet but welcome Zeki!👋
@ConnorJennett: They just keep knocking them out of the park 😂
@jordan_denton_: Absolutely shocking video but brilliant at the same time.. Burnley’s social media team are loving it

@chopperlloyd: Whatever the burnley social media team are getting paid….its not nearly enough 🤣🤣🤣
@chrislepkowski: Burnley carving out a niche for this kind of stuff. Great awareness of how to maximise social media for the announcement of player signings. Gets them noticed, gets their brand spread far and wide. Even if you don’t like it, nor get it, it works – as their numbers clearly show
@mccalton: Love it…gotta wonder how pissed/high the socials team were when coming up with this one 😂
@KompanysC: And winner of the weirdest transfer announcement of all time goes to…. 😂🤣 So bad it’s good!
@Snellyyyy_: Seen it all now
@sam3BD: Imagine getting your big move and your club announces you with the fuckin’ teletubbies 😭😭😭
@OfficialVizeh: If you told me 5 years ago Burnley would be announcing €18m Swiss Wonderkids using Teletubbies I’d say you were on some hardcore narcotics
@CFCKaz6: If I put in 2 decades of my life dedicating to be a footballer and I finally get a premier league move and they announce me with a tele-tubby I’d lose all hope
@GaryJamesWriter: It looks like Burnley are shaking up football transfer announcements. How long before Iggle Piggle joins the social media team at Chelsea in a £multi-million deal?
