Bristol City fans vent anger after being dumped out of the FA Cup to Port Vale

Bristol City fans vent anger at their players and manager after being dumped out of the FA Cup to league below Port Vale.

It was a night to forget for the travelling fans, the game also going to extra time, only for it to end with Vale winning 1-0, booking a place in the fifth round for the first time in 30 years.

Bristol City comfortably saw off Watford at home 5-1 in the previous round, but have since struggled, with 3 wins, 5 defeats and 2 draws in their last 10 games in all competitions.

Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber told BBC Radio Bristol:

“Really disappointed, we had a completely different plan to jump in the fifth round and again it was in big moments, in these basics [we were] not on top, especially when we realise chances, that we are ready to bring the ball in the net, we miss here a little bit.

“Then we get cheap goals against us, when you look at this goal how we get it it’s a long ball, lose the first duel and then it was not connected enough.

“We have some new players in the backline and we have to create a good wall but I’m really unhappy how we deal in this moment.

“We know FA Cup is always a little bit special but we have to win this game, this must be our clear standard and we don’t jump in this direction.”

Port Vale boss Jon Brady said on facing Sunderland next up: “It will be the ultimate test but we are looking forward to it.

“Our pitch is tough to play on, but it’s tough for us to play on too.

“To get the win at the end made it more dramatic. We could have been up earlier but to get the one we did, it seemed to roll over the line slowly.

“I am pleased for Ben because he worked so hard throughout the night. He had four or five big chances and needed a goal.

“When you look back they had hardly any chances on target. Our structure was good and the boys implemented it well.”

Port Vale’s Ben Waine said to BBC Sport: “That’s unbelievable.

“It was a solid performance and we reduced them to minimal efforts on goal.

“My first chance probably goes in on a better pitch but the second one probably gets cleared off the line if it’s a better pitch.

“It was pure relief when I saw it go in. It was amazing. It was special. Everyone worked their backsides off, to get that reward at the end is amazing.”

On setting up a tie against Sunderland on Sunday, Waine added: “I’m a Newcastle fan so bring it on.”

Twitter users reacted having seen Bristol City fans vent anger after being dumped out of the FA Cup to Port Vale…

@bcfcgal: Fucking embarrassing again. How have we gone from playing exciting football and challenging to here! Its a sad affair!

@ArniedBS3: Ohh well. The Watford and Vale defeats have cemented my thoughts about not renewing next season Such a shame as I’ve given my life to the club. Sadly, they no longer give me anything back.

@bcfc_away_days: What a waste of time and money for everyone that travelled

@TheRobinsZone: Unbelievable. Complete lack of fight from everyone on that pitch.

@JamesEastw19268: Struber miles out of his depth. There’s a reason he was sacked by Koln before they got promoted. Horrible football, players aren’t playing for him. I’ve seen enough over the last few months to know he’s not the one.

@bcfc_beth: Now to get battered on Saturday after playing 2 hours of shit football. That was fucking terrible from start to finish, not even arsed we’re out the cup, that was just a shameful display. Honestly don’t even know if I can be arsed to go this weekend.

@Nintendoubt815: Sums our season up. No doubt Lansdown will look to blame Struber but this is on his transfer policy. Can’t keep depleting our squad and expecting to get better. And they’ll still have the cheek to put £5 on our season ticket renewals in about 2 weeks time.

@rmace1986: The absolute audacity, to produce that for 2 hours, and then choose after FT to ‘show some fight’. Pathetic.

@Barn_CF: Get the gutless bastards in at 7am and run them til 7pm. Not a single one or them interested since January, fuck the lot off at the end of the season useless cunts

@BCFCRobinsView: People will have their opinions about last season, but one thing there was undeniably- A whole club TOGETHERNESS. We have whatever the complete opposite of that is right now. From a season & direction that started so positive to losing faith in everything & everyone at the club😢

@mike_1977_: The Lansdowns might have money and the ability to build stadiums and training grounds, but they are constantly average at actual football. Things need to change.

@drew_nicholas01: Diabolical. To the bottom of League 1. Time to rethink our club, take a long hard look at your self tinnion and lansdown

@CharlieRay_2002: Regardless of squad being stretched at the back serious questions have too be asked of struber now, the January window should be no excuse for losing too bottom of league 1
