Brighton fans taunt Arsenal and Tottenham with cheeky chants after the Seagulls clinched a big win on Saturday afternoon.

While it was a poor showing from the Gunners, it was yet another impressive performance from Brighton to see them climb up to third in the Premier League table.

Pascal Gross and Charalampos Kostoulas had them two up by half time, before Chema Andres added a third on the 57th minute.

According to reports, chants of “are you Tottenham in disguise?”, “champions of England, you’re having a laugh”, “are you Tottenham in disguise?”, “Eze, what’s the score?” and “can we play you every week?”, were heard echoing around the Amex.

Arsenal and Tottenham fans headed for the exits around the 80th minute mark.

 

Tottenham’s Roberto De Zerbi spoke on the timing of the international break, saying, as per Sky Sports:

“Maybe it’s better, I didn’t speak with the players today because I didn’t want to say anything.

“But the players who go with the national team they have to play, they have to work and the other players like Gallagher, Solanke, Tosin, Senesi, Savio for sure we have to work more because of the physical condition I didn’t like in this game.”

He added: “I’m very disappointed, very sad, very frustrated for the performance because we can’t lose this game in this way, absolutely. We can’t concede the second goal, we can’t lose balance just because in the first half we are losing in the beginning of the second half.

“I spoke with the four attackers to use their heads calmly, play calm, play, enjoy, don’t take risks. When we conceded the second goal it was incredible.”

Aston Villa’s Unai Emery spoke on Zion Suzuki and Nicolas Jackson:

“They are here for it. Their commitment to us, challenging themselves to achieve what we did before and replacing important players, is fantastic. But every player needs to understand how we can feel better collectively and how they can help us with their qualities, exploiting our best performance.

“Today, we made a clear step forward in improving that. Zion is maintaining the performance he showed before, and Jackson clearly improved from the previous matches. This is the way and the example of how he played.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said, as per Sky Sports:

“A very disappointing result and performance. Full credit to Brighton in the manner they performed and went about the game. They were another gear from us in the basics of the game. They were always first in the first duel, in the second actions, second balls, and they started to play from there.

“And on top of that, when we had the ball, especially in our own half, we were extremely poor technically, not respecting the game and the game principles you have to apply against a team that want to press you man to man.

“That never gives you the option to dominate and control the game in the manner you want. And then when we had big chances, we didn’t put them away.

“We have to make sure we learn the lesson because this can’t happen again.”

 

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler to Sky Sports:

“Beating the current champions and the best team in England is something special. But it’s not because the result is special, it’s the performance. The boys showed real togetherness and intensity.

“They were horrible to play against today and that’s because we did the basic things right. Overall I was very pleased with the performance.

“I think we deserved to win. It’s a moment the players and the staff can enjoy because they worked hard for this but it’s also important why we had this success today, because we did the basics right and we were brilliant in the duels.”
