Brighton amuses by mocking Man Utd fan after Joao Pedro scores 95th minute winner

Brighton amuses by cheekily mocking Man Utd fan ‘@UTDTrey’ after Joao Pedro scores a 95th minute winner in the Premier League on Saturday.

Played two. Won two. Brighton are flying and are thrilled at taking all three points against a Manchester United side who cannot believe what has just happened.

Fabian Hurzeler’s rewarded for some bold changes and persistence, Welbeck put the hosts ahead before United responded with Amad’s deflected finish.

A poor goal those in the 95th minute for Man Utd to give away, and in the end a basic one for Brighton as Pedro met Adingra’s floated ball at the back post and headed it out of Onana’s reach.

Erik ten Hag and his United men pick up a defeat on their first away trip of the season, frustrated at also seeing Garnacho’s goal being disallowed which would have given United the lead if but for Zirkzee’s knee causing it to be ruled offside.

Man Utd fan ‘@UTDTrey’ went to the game and prior to it, took a picture of himself outside the ground and captioned it “Pray for Brighton”. Come full time of Brighton’s win, the club then tweeted the “Pray for Brighton. 😜”

Brighton goalscorer Joao Pedro, speaking to TNT Sports: “First I’m very happy for the win. I think this goal at the end shows how much we wanted to win the game, first game at home against a big team. I cannot feel better than today. I think the team did well and now we need to rest because we have another big game next weekend.”

On the fans’ reactions: “I think the fans know the power of the team so they always expect a great game against big teams and today we won so I think everyone is happy and we need to enjoy.”

On staying motivated in the game: “Like the gaffer said to us, we need to believe in ourselves, we know they are United, a big club, but I think everyone wants to show our power. I think this is what motivates us to fight against a big team and you never know. Now we need to think about the next game, another big team.”

On Fabian Hurzeler’s impact: “I think he’s a very good person, he always tries to push us to believe in ourselves, to keep it going. I think it was another big game for us, another three points and this is what he wants: to fight, push, until the end.”

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It was very emotional, always when you get the win in the last minute it is. I think we deserved to win, we had a good game not a perfect game. There were also situations where United had the chance to win the game.

“I’m very proud of the team, they showed the value of never giving up and that’s very important to me.

“I think the first half was equal and then in the second half we started to control the game quite well. We had a lot of chances, especially in the second half.

“Their goal for me was from out of nowhere. I then didn’t like the losing the control. Then after their offside goal I think we started to control the game again. In the end, I think we deserved to win.”

On goalscorer Joao Pedro: “I think Joao is a player who can decide the game with one action. For me it was impressive today how he worked against the ball. He had the belief he would score and that’s something that makes him special. But in the end it’s always a team win and that’s most important.”

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “When you should have taken at least a draw, we could have won as well if that goal from Joshua Zirkzee, if that incident counts.”

On what he made of the disallowed goal: “It was difficult. In the moment he was on the slide. If he had read the situation better, maybe he could have avoided it but you can do nothing once you are on the slide, you can’t avoid the ball. It’s tough but also we created many more chances to score a second goal. We showed resilience and fought back. We had our opportunities to score more goals. It is disappointing when you don’t win and then you lose.”

On conceding late: “Two soft goals and we have to be more clinical in both boxes and act better as a team. It’s a pity that we are without any points here. we have to get up and go for the net big game which is coming up.”

On transfers: “When we have news, we will come out as a club. You have to look for better, we have an opportunity but we have to find the right options. So far we are happy with this squad and we go with this squad into the league.”

On what he makes of the opening two games: “We have good potential but we have to keep going until the end. We concede a goal in stoppage time. The game is finished when the referee whistles three times. That is what we did not do well so we have to improve that game management.”
