Bournemouth have decided to plan a surprise raid for a Championship boss with their current manager to be replaced after losing the playoffs.
Cherries’ Jonathan Woodgate could be out of a job this summer, with Fulham boss Scott Parker ‘top of their wanted list’ according to reports.
The former Middlesbrough boss replaced Jason Tindall on an initial deal until the end of the season just gone and ended up securing a playoff place, however were left disappointed when they were dumped out by Brentford.
They did win the first leg, though were beaten 3-2 in the second to the eventual winners, and now Bournemouth look set to go in for Parker who, was a previous managerial target following Eddie Howe’s departure last summer.
Alan Nixon has stated that there ‘will be a second attempt’ from Bournemouth to lure Parker to the south coast and that the 40-year-old ‘may decide to move on’ after his side’s second relegation from the Premier League in three seasons.
It comes days after Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn revealed that the club are in the ‘closing stages’ of the recruitment process as they look to name a new manager.

Fans are waiting to see who will become the boss for next season, and Mostyn told reporter Kris Temple that the club are well down the road in terms of making an announcement.
Two weeks ago, when questioned on his future, Parker claims his focus remains at Craven Cottage, though patience con only stretch so far before the inevitable.
“As always, I’m committed, I’ve been committed since day one,” Parker said.
“My aim is and my ambition is to make this football club as strong and as successful as possible.
“That will always be my ambition. That’s never changed.”
Fulham had 10 games in the 2018/19 Premier League with Scott Parker in charge after Slavisa Jokanovic was sacked. He couldn’t save them.
The Cottagers spent big in the first season back in the top flight football but it was in vain as they came straight back down after the 2018/19 campaign as a 19th-placed side with Parker winning three of his 10 games in charge – the other seven all losses.
They bounced back from that and went up again in 2019/20 via the Championship playoffs only to suffer a second relegation from last season’s Premier League – coming down as the 18th-placed side.
All of this has left Parker learning a harsh lesson about the gulf in class between the Premier League and the Championship.
The 40-year-old was appointed Fulham boss in late February 2019 – effectively the club’s Premier League fate had been all but sealed by the time of his appointment.
He had manage the Craven Cottage outfit for 105 games – earning an average of 1.3 points per game over that time.
His record stands at 37 wins, 25 draws and 43 defeats to give him a 41% win rate as Fulham boss. He’s used 53 players across his time at the club – scoring on average 1.06 goals per game and conceding 1.28 goals.
He’s managed his current side for 49 Premier League games (Won 8/Drew 13/Lost 27) and 49 Championship games (Won 25/Drew 12/Lost 12) – this shows he has a measure of the second tier.
As Bournemouth plan a surprise raid for the Championship boss with the current manager to be replaced, fans gave their reaction, see what they had to say…
@leemsmiffy: Scotty Parker knows how to get up. If not Palace, Eddie to Fulham would be a good shout and a good fit. Puts them both on the the M3 for home.
@AFCB_Mark: The main thing for me – you don’t leave Fulham for Bournemouth without some money being made available.
@afcbbeachboy: I would be happy with Parker, plays exciting football and he has been a long term target .
@KirkTovey: Not sure how concrete this is but Parker would excite me for the first time since Eddie left. #AFCB is now a rebuild project IMO & a challenge for both parties. It may not be for every fan but I would have a good 60% feeling with the 40% based on his previous champ experience
@Jake49386917: I swear Scott Parker is popular because of his good post match interviews. But he had a squad that on paper was probably stronger than ours and still couldn’t catch us during our terrible 2 wins in 21 games run, or am I missing something?
@fm_iconic: Some news? Could it happen, surely not….. #afcb
@HarryfromTTP: Fulham fans.. has it been quiet your end? As much as it’s been quiet ours? #afcb #ffc
@GuyN72: For me, Parker has same aura as JT. He always strikes me as a ‘reluctant’ manager who never really seems to be enjoying himself. I’d rather keep JW. Which, of course, could still be the plan….
@afcbbrasil: SCOTT SCOTTY PARKER
@frankieptaylor: Parker to Bournemouth. Robinson to City (£10m) – seems tough to turn down given current situation plus Bryan in waiting. I hope Parker leaving is the bit of a reality check we need for faces leading the club. We can’t have PE teachers and nepotism lead the way.
@Robmatlee: Oh, here we go. Some fucking news! You know Arter is in his ear telling him to do it. #afcb
@MikeAFCB4: omd omd omd omd omd omd
@supersimmo123: I still think this is why Parker hasn’t been sacked. The club know he has interest, wants out and is waiting for someone to make a move. Providing the replacement is in place and ready to go I have no issue #ffc
Fans also reacted with Bournemouth in the “closing stages” of their manager recruitment process…
@cherrybear86: We’ve gotta try and establish ourselves as a solid championship mid tier team and I’ve got a feeling after the key assets are sold this may be a difficult task
@Harrison_write: We should have sorted this a week ago. Absolute joke, they have had more than enough time to identify their best candidate and get him
@PaulKenward: Waiting for woodgate to get back from holiday?
@JoynesMatthew: Surely it won’t be woodgate had we recruited a manager last summer with ability we would have been promoted – the gathering storm is relegation without a real top flight manager
@GarryColes1: Better get your chequebook out again Jeff…!! I hear Eddie is looking for a job..?!?
@CJAFCB: #afcb Interesting soundbite from Jeff. Very clear he was guarded and very careful not to reveal much at all. I take that as being nothing more than being very concerned to avoid the media circus of last winter. Could be JW but equally anyone else. Too easy to assume the former
@RampantRico: Mostyn doing something. Is it April Fool’s?
@DanjumaSZNmaybe: please please please don’t mess this up
